Re: Chip Day

At first I was worried about how I was gonna handle all the beer on the job at the end of the day.

Turns out I was the one always buyin' or flyin'.

Re: Chip Day

Please forgive my naivety but if you stay sober for over 30 years, are you really still an alcoholic?

Believe me when I say that if I were to have one now I will have had twenty by morning.

Imo you can be an alcoholic and never picked up a drink. I'm pretty sure I wanted a Scotch and ice in the womb.

Congrats Kiteman. It's guys like you and pin that give new comers like me inspiration. Thank you!

My standard line when asked that question, 1's to many & a river full isn't enough.

I've been blessed by having lost the desire to drink, but don't for a second take for granted how precious a gift I've been given.

Re: Chip Day

Congratulations kiteman. That's a long time.

I have not had a drink in several years either. Don't miss them at all.
Quit when the hangovers lasted longer than the drinking spree and made my days miserable.

Don't know if I should've joined Bill's club, but it is working okay regardless.

Hat's off to you - 37 years of filling your life rather than emptying the bottles.

Know 7 who didn't make it out alive, wayyy to many who still struggle, have lived in the "wakes" of many "functioning" (family, friends, my own) ....

Amazing accomplishment Kiteman (pin cali ....too).

This song always comes to mind regarding the journey

Re: Chip Day

I have a relative who keeps relapsing.. but he remains in denial. This time last year he gave up drinking completely. He made many mini-speeches stating how ridiculous it was and how he didn't need it.. telling everyone how many days he's gone without a drink and how his life is so much better as a result. He even scolded his kids for bringing wine to his house when they came with the grandchildren.

Then the other day when I was at his house for a backyard cookout, he was polishing off an entire bottle of wine by himself. I really wanted to say, "Uhhh... what about all of those soapbox speeches you've been making?" He probably could hear me thinking because he said, "Now that I've kicked my alcohol addiction, I only drink on weekends."

What makes me think that it's all baloney is that he's quite irritable before he has his first glass of wine Friday evening and he's watching the clock on Sunday trying to get as much in as he can before his cut-off time.

But I guess it's better to be a non-drinking alcoholic than to be a sloppy drunk non-alcoholic.
