Chevy & Ford Merger?

Have you heard the rumors?? Will the Ford-vs-Chevy war finally come to an end?

Re: Chevy & Ford Merger?

Not gonna happen in my opinion. Nothing more than rumors. Being in SE Michigan I can tell you that rumor has gotten a fair amount of radio time today. Automotive news guys with so called "inside connections" mostly think its just noise.
But one never knows for sure.

Fhevy? Chord? Wow, that would really screw up some friendly rivalries.

Can't see it happening, but like River Rat said, who could be sure. Hey, Kmart and Sears merged, it was like squishing two turds together, the owners of both turds thought that they would end up with maybe a new shiny apple or something instead of just a bigger turd.

Re: Chevy & Ford Merger?

Anybody read Lee Iacocca's book (autobiagraphy)? When he took over Chrysler, he found it was in such bad shape, he was left with bankruptcy or merge with someone, and he said they pushed for a Ford merger, but Ford wouldn't consider it. Instead, government loan, paid back early, and look where Chrysler is today?

I can't imagine how it would look...the Ford/Chevy merger, but why not? Their combined market would still be smaller then the competition...no anti trust laws are being broken.....and it is a fact, if American Automakers do not get it together, they will be consumed, just like Chrysler was.....and become a foreign held company.

Re: Chevy & Ford Merger?

It wasn't my understanding that they were merging but rather forming some kind of partnership or alliance.

If they built a better vehicle and got their labor issues in check they would be able to compete on the global economy and wouldn't have to mess with all this merger partnership BS.

So would my F-150 now be a Chord or a Fevy?

Automaker DaimlerChrysler AG lowered its 2006 operating profit forecast Friday, saying its Chrysler Group now expects a $1.52 billion loss in the third quarter, more than double the amount anticipated.

Just wait until the Chinese vehicles get here. It's really hard for us to compete when they have labor that will work for $0.68 a day.

Some days it seems I'm toe-to-toe with those numbers.

Re: Chevy & Ford Merger?

Merger discussions are underway between GM and Renault/Nissan. As I understand it, if they don't reach an agreement by end of September then Renault/Nissan may approach Ford. I haven't seen any discussion about a GM/Ford merger.
