Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I have both Comcast Cable and DirecTV. Our House in Portland has too many trees to get satellite so we have comcast there, and we have DirecTV at our house in Eatonville and in our motorhome. We use our motorhome at most job sites to cut down on the thieves at night, so I end up sleeping in it for months at a time. But it's not too bad staying in it, I have great TV, my computers with high speed, and its very comfortable.

If I had a choice I would have DirecTV in Portland too. And if you get DirecTV get the DVR package. Once you have a DVR you'll wonder how you lived without it. The wife goes nuts in Portland always wanting to rewind to catch something she missed.

Forgot too add: The stories about rain fade, etc. are hyped up. It is true every once in awhile you will get some rain fade, but it usually only last a few seconds. And when the cable goes out it can be days to get fixed.

Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I had to give direct tv a credit card to sign up but paid by check every month. Two years later they put this bogus equipment charge on my card but never informed me about it. I fought with them for 3 months for $118 and finally got it but what a waste of time.

They like to get those equipment charges on your card when you leave whether you sent it in or not and you better have your proof of shipping and delivery confirm.

Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I've had dish network and cable. We would lose our signal everytime it rained hard or if we had alot of snow or ice. My buddy does have direct tv,and seems pretty happy with it. We did go back to cable just for the simple fact that it was cheaper to bundle phone, internet, and cable all together and that we had dialup and it sucked and cable was our only option for highspeed.

Thats another thing about dish network that I didn't like if your service got interrupted for any reason and you didn't send the equipment back in a few days they would charge you 300 bucks for the equipment.

I have dish network and I had the same problems that you mentioned. It would rain real hard and it will go out. Well I updated my dish to get more HD programming and he told me why I would lose coverage in rain. He fixed it and it has never happened again!

Whichever company you go with, getting a DVR is one of the best things you can do.

Yes DVR is a life saver sometimes. When I get home its down to my office for phone calls, paper work,or holding meetings. If there is something I wanna see I use the trusty dvr and watch it when I get the chance. Its worth the little extra and I think if you hit a good deal they throw it in for free sometimes.

Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I have a two story, 3 bedroom townhouse with 6 TVs (yes 6!).

I have Comcast for both TV (step above minimum - maybe 40-50 channels) and internet and the service is very good. I don't like the price.

I do not have a landline for home and use cell phones exclusively, so if I dumped Comcast internet and went with DSL and I would need a landline.

I do hate extra boxes for each set and I hate extra wires and things to plug in! From what I have observed, any dish would just be too much of a hassle to risk a change on. - That is why I still have no dish. - Am I correct considering my situation?

Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I switched to Dish Network 3 years ago and have had very minimal outage problems. At least when it has occurred, their was a weather related reason for it.

With my old Comcast, it would go out frequently and their was no logical explanation for all of the ongoing downtime.

Yes, the DVR feature is a gift from above. I have 3 of them set up in my house and my Litte guy can watch one of his kids shows for the 10,000nth time if he wants.

I also got it bundled with my AT & T account, (SBC/Yahoo), and had my YP rep get me a contact in the "Customer Reacquisition" department, and I got my DSL with the higher speeds for uploading and downloading for a cheaper cost that their Triple Play version, and it does not expire after 12 months.

Re: Cable Or Direct Tv

I wanted to go with yahoo for dsl but it wasn't offered in my area yet so we went back with cable for all 3(cable,telephone,internet). Have had it for a year now and the only time its gone out is when a semi took out the wires and they were back out the same day to fix it since I run one of my business from my home office.
