CA Bashing

I take offense at the CA bashing that sometimes goes on here. Below are some positive things about CA.

Yosemite

Lake Tahoe

Redwoods

1340 miles of coastline

Best Climate in the Country

Products of:

And it is so great that there are signs that warn drivers of people running into California from other countries.

Thats all.

Mexifornia.

I hear it is going to be annexed to Mexico when the North America Union happens. Shoot, California is only 25% American now, so no great loss when Mexico takes it.

Aw c'mon Putty...

Mexicans ARE americans.

Fremont captured Pio Pico very near where I once lived, when we took California from Mexican control.

It wasn't but a few years after that when Pio Pico became a California governor, I think our third one...

You think we'd be better off if the russians came and took back control of the Great Pacific Northwest?

Nyet.

What we don't want is the aztlan scenario...
Everyone loses.

Worse than being in the land of the fee and home of the slave.

Ahh, this is a pretty good place to hang your hat. I made the move three years ago and haven't looked back.

I will say with the contractors I have met out here there is such a thing as California time...No ones ever in a hurry to get it done, these guys would die trying to get stuff done before winter hits (this is only a few contractors, not all and I would assume all warmer sunny places have the same)

There is also Mexican time, which drives me absolutly battie, again I assume it is the same elsewhere.

But the weather!!! You can't beat the weather, Ski in Tahoe to relaxing on a beach all in 3 hours

Newsflash California Population 38 Million, 12.5% of the US population calls California home, 12.5% of the population can't be wrong

I can assure you with 100% certainty this is NOT true for me.

Ca vs. NY State

Yosemite
- Nope. We DO have lots of State parks and Beautiful landscapes. Mountains (albeit smaller), hundreds and hundreds of lakes, etc.

Lake Tahoe

- See above

Redwoods
-Nope. We don't have the biggest trees. We do have the biggest (Niagra) falls though.

1340 miles of coastline
- NY Has hundreds of miles of ocean/sea coastline.

Best Climate in the Country
- NY has just as nice of a climate. Consider Ca is several times larger so we are closer to Northern Ca's climate. You can take So Cal (and it's climate) and secede for all I care.

Products of:

Ha! you can have both of 'em. They're both bozos IMO.

These guys I like.

And it is so great that there are signs that warn drivers of people running into California from other countries.
- THIS I am jealous of. We don't have those signs, although we should.

What NY does NOT have is earthquakes, riots (much), mud slides, and the ever popular wild fires.

We also do not have Ca's moronic, assinine laws, regulations and restrictions. Although I humbly say NY does tend to follow Ca's idiotic lead when it comes to this area.

Re: CA Bashing

I've been to CA numerous times from the 60's to the 90's, from Fort Bragg to Tijuana. From 6 mos. to a few days and never felt welcome there. The folks there are just cold.

I've had a better reception in Canada (lots of fun, eh) and Europe.

Cali for me! Moved here from VA 30 years ago and never looked back. SoCal is the better of the two halves IMHO. A wonderful place to live except for the politics (although SoCal is again pretty conservative)

Damn it, I thought this was going to be about bashing Canada (CA is also an abbreviation for Canada as well) and I've got plenty of material, but it's about California, the dingle berry on America's ass, just hanging there, we?ll get rid of you yet.

My only exposure to California was when we were involved in the trucking business, and there were no positives....I did like the short trip in and out, the weather, but the road taxes and the DOT combined with the idiot split speed limit were the downsides.

So if California is so great, why are so many Californians moving here?

"Most non Californians(and people that have never even been here) that bash Cali are just jealous."
I call bullsh*t- Around here, people often apologize for being from California, like they were a lower life form.

Re: CA Bashing

There is a growing trend in Oklahoma for people from California and high end markets buying land and homes here (and other states) for the move to retirement. Lets say you had a paid for home with a million in equity, easy to do in California, and little savings....sell out, buy a comp home for less then 100k, and presto, you now have a funded retirement account.

People leave because of the home prices and they cash in.

So everyone in California has hundreds of thousands in equity in their homes? Why are there hundreds of thousands of foreclosures?

If it is so nice why are the white people leaving?

The real California:

Re: CA Bashing

The foreclosure are something that is happening now, recent history, like 1 year old. When people say that CA's are coming to there state in large numbers they probably are talking about before the foreclosure stuff started happening. But even today, for every 1 foreclosure there are 100 people who still have a ton of equity and can get a mansion in most other states.

The other people who are leaving are those that never owned a home and it is too expensive to become one.

That is one of the bad part of CA. The housing is way too expensive and the traffic is bad in SO CA.

Re: CA Bashing

I'm all for perpetuating the idea that CA sucks, so all the jagazzes stay where they are or move someplace else.

With that, the weather sucks (60's in Dec), the beach really ain't all that, the girls are all dogs, the mountains are too far away to enjoy if you live on the coast (a whole 2 hours away), and there's just no work here. Stay where you are, there's nothing here for you.

My favorite bumper sticker says: "Welcome to California. Now go home." I second that.
