Re: Bush In Europe

I just like the fact that one way or another that their political leaders are slowly being forced to eat crow and trying to find ways to not lose face with their citizens as they each are slowly realizing that they are faced with coming on board now with us and Iraq or risking looking really stupid as things get better and better and all the predictions of how Iraq was going to turn out are being proved wrong day by day.

I give Bush credit for sending Kondi over to Europe to set the initial ground work and show we are receptive to letting them off the hook for being such idiots and now Bush is now opening the doors to Europe to welcome them back into the fold.

With all 26 members of NATO agreeing to help train Iraqi security forces, that's a huge step in the healing process.

This same phenomenon is going on at the local level in communities all over America; that is people are realizing they might be wrong about Bush. I remain amazed, however, at how entrenched some are in their belief that heh has some secret, evil master plan. I picked my oldest up at a party on Saturday night and wound up sitting down with the host's parents to have a couple beers while waiting for the party after the party to end. Both were very liberal in their political leanings (I am just the opposite) and I spent about 45 minutes politely getting the low down on Bush's REAL intentions (steal the oil, baptise the middle east, ******************** Cheney's puppet, etc.). When it was time to leave the mom said to me "I admit that life is pretty good for us right now, and I'm glad to see the Iraqi people getting the chance to govern themselves more freely, but I'm just really, really scared for my kids with Bush in office." All I could think was "huh???". I suppose I just don't get it.

Re: Bush In Europe

I'm with you Pipe.
I'm just curious as to how many of us have spent time over there? The Continent is such a mess and they live in the dark ages. I haven't been over there in years and have absolutely no desire to go back. Do you realise that France (a big country) is about the same size as the State of Georgia? Travel and accomodations are the pits except for the trains and the Autobahn which is an E ticket ride at Disney.
IMHO we should have let Hitler and Stalin have the whole bloody mess, let them duke it out and may the best man win. Downside, neither would have stopped there.

Re: Bush In Europe

Twenty years ago I spent some time sailing around the Adriatic. The Soviets were just about done with Yugoslavia and while it retained its great natural beauty, it was otherwise a wreck. Italy was fun but most of that could be attributed to things I could have just as easily enjoyed in St. Thomas. While unarguably historic and interesting, I found Italy to be old and run down (and I got robbed by a band of gypsy kids). I never imagined I'd be glad to leave a place like Venice, but I was.

I spent a lot of time in Italy and it all was stressful. Italy is the breeding ground of pickpockets and one is always on constant alert. I also don't care for a diet of kite paste.

Do you think that has something to do with people for some reason just won't or can't just open their eyes and look at all the facts and make their own opinion and instead rely on hearing the liberals vomit over and over again their sky is falling rehetoric?

Those people you talked about have all the evidence in front of them, all they have to do is look at it all and draw the correct conclusion. It is almost like brain washing. Everybody was told the sky was green for so long that they look at a blue sky and still see green. Every once in awhile they see the true color but since they have been told so many times that it is really green they just can't see the blue.

I think a large part of the reason is that, like many people, liberals tend to blow up their balloons real big without considering that everyone's going to hear it if it pops. When it does burst they are so thoroughly mortified and embarassed that they can do nothing but go into denial.
I think the other part is they lack an interest in (capacity for?) critical thought. After all, their amps go up to '11' and mine only goes to '10'
