Re: Boy Scouts Selling Popcorn

Ya gotta' know how to do it. Ask the kid if you can take the order form to work. You write a check for whatever amount will make the kid happy and you get the loot to boot. Give it away to a charity when it arrives. Everyone is happy.

Re: Boy Scouts Selling Popcorn

I looked at this a week ago as I did a quick check of new posts. Today I am driving down the road and it hit's me to reply.

The guy who posts this thread up is a guy who complains about the youth who come looking for a job.

Groups sell things to raise money. "But" each time a kid comes up to one of us to ask if we would buy something we as "adults" have a chance to teach that kid how to behave, give them some self respect and confidence. "And" men have a chance to change their perception of "Men".

Do we seize the moment, look the kid in the eye the whole time, speak clearly and intelligently, stand up straight, even when you have to kneel down to talk to the kid at his level. Do we praise them and thank them for being part of their organization. Do we give them a good firm handshake. Do we use their name in our talking to them and say goodbye.

Or do we act like the men they see on television. I don't watch much TV, maybe 4 hours a week. Or less. When I do almost every show that I see advertised or happen to flip by the Father is portrayed like an idiot in every way. Step back and watch if you can how the next adult with the next Boy Scout handles it.

I get to worked up about this when I think about it and it's not easy for me to put into words my thoughts. If 8 out of 10 of us were to act as I wrote there would be a difference in some kids life some where. What are we here for if not for that.

I treat the kids the way they treat me. If they are polite, give 110%, look you in the eye and dressed properly, they get a huge order. If, on the other hand, they mutter, don't look me in the eye, etc, etc, I buy the cheapest thing I can and afterward, expalin why.
