Re: Bow Hunting

I'm taking a few days off to bowhunt. Heading out this morning to scout. Hopefully, set my stand up on a promising trail.
This is a special hunt I got drawn for. Its a lake area hunt close to me and their focus is game management, I think they are being overrun by deer. If we take a doe it automatically gives us a slot for next year. There are some expensive homes around there so we were encouraged to be sensitive to the needs of the people who live around the lake and not put our stands up in sight of their homes. These people are probably feeding the deer and think of them as pets. When the deer start eating their lawns they might be changing their tune. There are people in the area that sign up, pay the fee, and not hunt so they block a hunter from getting an opportunity.
Good luck, everyone that hunts. Post some pics.

Re: Bow Hunting

Deer have been hitting the mineral site... so have the racoons for that matter, but GAME ON! It's cool here in St. Louis and the deer are just startin' to move.

I have 1 out and 2 left to put up. Will probably get out this weekend and see what is out there for real. I don't get real excited about the 1st couple of weeks. The bucks are just starting to break up around here.

Yeah, I wish I had the will power to let him go. You can see its a fairly young deer for a nice rack like that. However I dont think the neighbors would let him go if I did. Its a bunch of farmers and most of them when it comes to hunting live by the philosophy of 'its brown its down'.

Re: Bow Hunting

Now that the hunting thread has fixed itself would I be too far off topic to post a pic of a compound bow and ask....well what to charge
$3.50 or $350... I was thinking of selling it.
We have a wood recurve that was my wifes fathers that we keep as a decoration but have no use for this bow and I couldn't find any info on the net.
I'll wait until one of the hunters gives me the OK before posting pics.
I used to fish alot and surfcasting is probably similar to hunting in a choose your area planning and limited range way

Re: Bow Hunting

Oh, btw, 1st light or mayhap, the night before, a youngling, spots almost still visible fell to my arrow. I don't shoot bucks. I prefer the tender meat. Also, seems kinda' cruel to hunt something just 'cause it's horny.

I claim 1st kill on this board. I'll post a picture only if someone else challenges me to this right with a picture of their own.

How'd I get one so quick? A local herd beds down in a low marshy spot about 20 feet behind my rear fence. See 'em every day there, hunkered down.

Of course there will be a shipping and handling charge of $350...

I'll post some pics later with the wood recurve bow also.
Its not that old as it has some fiberglass as part of the laminate.

I have a solid long bow of oak. 6 feet from tip to tip. Thing whips an arrow purtty good. Of course, you only shoot it once or twice and then put it down. Then have sore muscles for a few days.

OK I'm not to good with internet pics!
The last link shows all at once.
I even wrecked them as now they seem too small...

The compound bow is the one I was wondering what it was worth.

The wood bow is a piece of artwork that I thought some of you may appreciate.

The horns I put in just to see if anyone knew what they were? ...
closest I could get with some research was mountain goat but the ridges go the wrong way.

Bow season, opened here last Friday.

I have stick & string, will travel!!

That is all I hunt with.

Guns are not hunting, but just shooting. I can knock a deer down at 700 yards with my dads 30.06, that isn't hunting. I like being up close and personal. If I can get a big `ol wise buck within 30 yards, I've done something.

Re: Bow Hunting

We have a feral pig problem blooming here. Once I know the laws, I'm thinking of going after some. They're escaping from the exotic ranches. They're digging under the fences. Imagine that? What dork would fill an exotic ranch and not sink the fences 4 feet into the ground? All of them here.
