Aparently I Got Visited By The Hamburgler Last Night
I stopped by my shop this morning(Sunday) to find that I had been robbed. They tried cutting thru the deadbolts on the security door and got thru the first one and gave up when they found there was one inside also. So they just ripped the whole door and frame off the building. It was only held on by about 8 nail in anchors. Lucky for me all they took was my cash box with $2K in it. No stock and no tools.
So I call the police even though I know they will probably never catch anyone and if they do I will not get my money back anyway. They fill out the report and hand me a card with the case # on it so I can go buy a copy next week. On the card it has a blank for case type and my case type is "Burgury"! I give up! I put the door frame back up with more anchors this time and tommorrow I will add some plates and bolt them thru the wall then weld the heads to the plates. Sorry to hear about the theft. In these tough times we all need to be more careful about securing what is ours. It might be time to think about a alarm system, I'm thinking that 2k could have installed a pretty nice one.

I will probably install one within the month. I had priced one out before and almost purchased it. Now I will do it. I am just glad it was only the cash and I had made a deposit on Friday. Otherwise it would have been another few grand.

Re: Aparently I Got Visited By The Hamburgler Last Night
Sorry to hear about that.
One bit of hope: Sometimes you never know what will crack a case. Last October, I was working on a job in the town at the far west end of our railroad line. One night, the nearby convenience store/gas station got burglarized. (A passerby around oh-dark-thirty saw a guy up on a utility pole out front, apparently disabling the alarm system, but thought he worked for the power company or sumthin'. Because that company is "picky" about neatness in and around their stores, the manager was able to tell the police that a coffee cup found in the parking lot that morning wasn't there when they closed. Now that all felons are required to provide the state with DNA samples, a test of the cup found the DNA of a convicted burglar from another town. The story came out in March of this year about that guy and two others being arrested for at least 15 burglaries. They had apparently been doing "jobs" all over southern and central Maine, about $100,000 worth. They helped themselves to some Marlboros, but they were mostly after cash. The crappy part for the businesses involved is that cash generally isn't covered by insurance policies. It doesn't happen often enough, but sometimes the good guys do win one. |

Couple three years ago, our esteemed PD pulled a check point aimed at trailers / bobcats. Out 0f 25 or so checks, they found something like 7 or 8 stolen skidsteers. Too bad they did not continue the practice.

WOOF! BIG WOOF! There are sound and motion triggered alarms that do random barks and growls when activated. Some also have the distinct click of a gun being cocked. Probably have to clean up a pile of shiite outside the door in the morning, though. ![]()

Re: Aparently I Got Visited By The Hamburgler Last Night
Yes I do think they knew what they were looking for and where to look. I'm just happy it was not worse.
On the alarm I am going to go with a audio and flashing light out front. I may buy a used outdoor camera, mount it in the back and then just run the cord into a hole in the wll to make it look like I have a system. The front is pretty secure as it faces a 24 hour gas station I patronize just to keep the attendants on my side. I assume they would call in the police if alarms were to go off. A couple of years ago they did see a guy smashing the window of a neighbor and yelled at him and scared him off before he went into the buisness. I have now welded on some U channel and thrubolted that to the wall with plate on the inside. (with bolts welded in) I think now it wont be worth the effort. |

Make sure you let everyone who has access to the building that you have installed a new system. Don't let anyone know that some cameras may be dummies.

Re: Aparently I Got Visited By The Hamburgler Last Night
I did tell all the other people in the building about the "Burgury" (only 3) and we only share side walls front and back are own. The one other guy with a clue has also thrubolted his door.
