Anyone Had This Happen?

My partner and I are out estimating a job after dark. It's some sort of duplex filled development in another county. We wanted o get the bid done and after dark was the only time to do it. Armed with a flashlight, and a clipboard we measued the roof on each side of the duplex and go back to sit in the truck to do the math and write the bid. As we are measuring the roof, I joked with my partner saying " Watch someone call the cops on us thinking we are some sort of prowlers scoping out the neighborhood." So we are deciding what to charge and writing up the bid and I see police car pulling in. Jokingly I said "Look there are the cops" No sooner did this statement escape my lips as I am blinded with the glare of a Mag-Lite! The one pulling in must have been back up. He asks what we are doing, as if it wasnt clear as day. Proposal book, shingle catalog, Big ass truck with a ladder rack, five ladders, break etc. I tell the officer what is going on and he explains why he is there. We sat and talked to him for about 45 minutes ( so he could make sure we arent wanted criminals) and he let us go. I would just like to know why someone would call the police on two guys bidding a job. This was a nice neighborhood, far away from the city and if they watched us for so long they would have seen that we had been filling out paperwork. W.T.F?

We do a lot of night work and just the other night the fellows and I were reminiscing about how many times we've had the guns drawn on us, a couple times spread out on the ground. Military bases were the worst especially when you have some pimply faced 16 year old pointing an M-16 at you. We were just laughing about it but it was at least 8 times over the past 10 years.
