Any luck?
There is nothing like chicken-fried deer steaks!

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
How about a rare venison tenderloine cooked over charcoal?
I wish they would shoot more deer around here. They are dangerous pests that are nuisance.

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
Every morning my ride to work is a deer hunt. Them hunting me, the horned rats!
I don't hunt anymore, but I always get plenty sausage, canned meat, and backstrap from my friends and clients that do.

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
We had a real bad 2008 spring which killed off a lot of the deer population here. There's not much at all. Many counties were buck only and those are scarce themselves.
Paper had a small article about the local butcher how he only had 2 hanging where last year he had about 20. About the only positive is the deer tick population goes down also.

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
I don't mind the evening grazers in the ditch or on the road. (saw 89 in 40 miles ON the road and more in the ditch in MI). The problems are the runners coming across that you do not see until it is too late. - Even 35 mph can be too fast on a highway during the rut. Luckily, I only lost a couple of antennas from the last ones across.
I had couple in MI that each had one collision per year for 6 years (lived 15 miles out and communted separately). - Try to buy insurance with that history. It was good not too many were 200 pounders. Where I am, they are a nice thing to see daily in the suburbs and are rarely spooked and traffic is slower. They sure do tear up the shrubs and some gardens. Many cities and suburbs hire professionals to thin them out periodically. One suburb pulled out over 100 in one year. I can't hunt these deer and I do not think I would eat any considering what my neighbor puts on his garden and shrubs. The problem is that people and the habitat they create attract deer. - Just start a chain saw and come back early the next day or so.

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
Our deer are tiny (60-100#) but they have big horns and they are semi-tame and stupid. It is nothing for me to see 30-40 in different groups on my 2 mile drive from the neighborhood to the main road.

5 minutes to an hour, opening day, bag it, gut it, haul it out. Hang it, crave it up, and deer season is over.

Re: Anyone Been Deer Hunting This Year?
Yeah, got a 7 point second weekend. It was my grandson's first year at the hunting shack, he is only 5, but he loved sleeping in the bunkbeds.
