Re: Animal Lovers
Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but weren't animals put on this earth to serve us and meet our needs? Didn't God give us dominion over the animals right after he created them? I certainly don't feel bad about eating them or using their skin or furs, as long as I'm not needlessly destroying or plundering the animals or the earth.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth Last edited by mdshunk; 10-07-2007 at 01:20 AM. |

Re: Animal LoversQuote:
I used to be against hunting, and then I lived in rural Ohio for 12 years and my views were completely turned around. Every hunter I knew ate what they killed, and in most cases it was a very important way of supplementing the larder. The vast majority of hunters were respectful of the animals they killed and of property owners that didn't want their land hunted. Personally, most of the people I knew, hunters and non-hunters, were glad that the deer numbers were being thinned; everybody knew someone whose car had tangled with a deer and lost. I don't have a problem with people becoming vegetarian based on personal belief and philosophy. I don't have a problem with people trying to persuade me to become a vegetarian. (although, with a laundry list of food allergies, I could defy most vegetarians to create a diet with enough calories and nutrients to sustain myself and my food-allergic daughter). I have a problem with stacking the emotional deck with pictures of cute, fluffy animals. Killing is never pretty, and people who kill animals for fun are sick. But let's face it - if we're going to eat meat, animals are going to die. If the animal has had a good life and non-traumatic death, that is enough for me. Humans are omnivores, and our species eats meat. We could probably eat much less than we do, but complete vegetarianism is going to be a hard sell. I read something recently about the real sell of vegetarianism being global warming, that the raising, slaughtering, and marketing of beef cattle in particular creates more greenhouse gases than all the cars in the world put together. There's something I think more people could get behind, and I think that's the future of the anti-meat arguments. But I am not going to become a vegetarian. I am eating "green" meat and paying a premium so that I know the animals I consume were raised in humane conditions with no hormones and minimal antibiotics. For an interesting read about a seal-hugger turned seal-meat-eater, read this: IFAW Missionary Fired for Talking Détente |

Re: Animal Lovers
Vegetarian is an old Indian word for a man that cant hunt lol. The best meat in the world is organic meat as well as organic fruits and veggies a local farm here has some amazing fresh halal processed Charolais (is the breed) beef and he ships it all over the country www.baldwinbeef.com . If your in the area you can even pull in and pick up a few pounds and see what your buying.
