America To The Rescue (again)

Two good op-ed pieces (OK, I admit it's subjective) about the ongoing tsunami relief effort and the attending "buzz"

I read these two weekly - they often crack me up

The carrier's 1,092-foot flight deck outperforms some of the best commercial airports, launching and recovering up to 90 aircraft on hundreds of flights every day. Eight steam turbine generators produce enough electrical power to serve a small city. The ship carries approximately 3 million gallons of fuel, and can stock food and supplies for 90 days. Nuclear reactors help turn seawater into more than 400,000 gallons of fresh water daily
Now that's what I call a boat! I wonder if it has an icemaker

Someday I'll regale you with tales from the CVN-65 Enterprise. You will be impressed.
Carriers are the most efficient ships in the fleet and excellent business models.
90 aircraft a day is only a fraction of what they can deliver in combat. As I remember it, it was a launch about every 14 seconds.

Re: America To The Rescue (again)

I think the "90 aircraft" might refer more to what they have in their quiver than it does the # of daily sorties they can support - just guessing.
