Re: For The Aircraft Enthuists

They do a great show. They are more on the aerobatic and team display....if you want power...well, the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds have the horsepower thing locked.

I started this thread to post cool pictures of flying craft that members here on the site have taken. I will get some more up today. The first week of August is typically the Abbotsford Airshow. That'll be fun.

Re: For The Aircraft Enthuists

Fairchild Republic A-10 Warthog - I have seen this machine shred the turret off of a tank. The pilot said that the aircraft actually slows down while firing due to recoil. No tank in the world can stand up to this machine. As an Infantryman, the most powerful weapon we possessed was a good radio. If you needed something gone - dial up the AF for a little CAS. They would bring the right tool for the job.

Some of the fastest piston driven aircraft of WW II.

Are there any P-38 Lightnings still flying?

When I was a kid I belonged to the Explorers , I think it was the older verision of the cub scouts or something...

Anyways somehow one of the grown ups running our group was connected to GE and we got to go on field trips to the local GE complex where we lived. At the time they were in late development of the A10 war-hog and GE was involved with what parts I can't remember, but we got to go there all the time and see all this stuff about the A10 while they were developing and testing the weapons system. Showed us how the plane was basically built around the main cannon, had the guns set up on huge test benches, showed us all kinds of inside company footage on the plane.

Was pretty cool stuff for a teenage air-force brat at the time.
