Shocking isn't it?

I worked in a restaurant as a youth for about 5 years. I can tell you that people are eating a lot of stuff they have no idea about both on purpose from d-bag food workers and by accident.

If people had a magic detector that went off everytime there was something objectionable in the food they were eating at a restaurant it would go off enough times to make anybody stay home.

It's shocking what the human body can deal with automatically and without us knowing anything about it.

Just for instance, in washing heads of lettuce, they usually came 24 to a case and for prep they used to wash 4 cases at a time. I can't tell you the amount of band aids, rocks, cigarette butts, spiders etc... came out of those heads of "pre-cleaned" lettuce. Now just figure the odds of how often something got through when you are talking about 4 cases per day 366 days in a year.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. I always wonder how many things I've eaten at restaurants and fast-food joints that have been dropped on the floor, etc.

I need to stay away from processed food a little more.

Insect parts are no big deal, even if a little gross. It's probably healthier than whatever processed food I'm eating it with. There are people around the world who eat insects, anyway...

However, rat sh*t and stuff like that is just a little much

Hasn't that show Fear Factor pretty much shown that you can eat just about anything and not have any bad side effects?

I'm bad about this stuff.

I'm so jaded now and blase about it, I have never sent anything back at a restaurant over a hair or something in it. I just move it aside and consider that's the one I found which means I've eaten a dozen in the last year.

When I've seen somebody crazy outraged over something they find in their plate making a huge scene, the irony is I know everybody in that place is thinking- man if that freaked you out, imagine if you knew all the other crap you've eaten in your lifetime and haven't known it!

I worked in a high class restaurant ( a couple actually) and it all depends on who runs the kitchen and who gets away with what. But it ain't like Moms kitchen.

At one time in my life I had to go 'test' old c-rations that were stored away for 'emergencies' and I had a list from the government that was a LOT bigger then that one on that link. Anyho, if you're eating veggies, you're eating bugs. Plain and simple. When my kids find a caterpillar in their brocolli, I just tell 'em its added protein and its good for you.
