Re: About Time...

I'll refrain from saying much, but I would like to remind you all of the early days of this administration when VP Cheney held those "top secret" closed door energy policy meetings with all those friends from the industry. That was to develop a new national energy policy. To date, nothing decided by that group has been released to the public due to "National Security" concerns. Don't think that anyone in the room or even just outside have any reason to be concerned about their own security now with those profits rolling in.

I have absolutely no doubt that govt. involvement in controlling gas prices will only exacerbate the problem. Lower prices will only come as a result of market forces - namely increased supply.

Re: About Time...

I recently attended a great speech by the Montana governor Brian Swietzer. He was on 60 minutes recently pitching his idea of using the coal to fuel method to try to bring down the need of foreign oil. He says that it could be produced for about a $1/gal. You would of course need a diesel to use this fuel but it is cleaner and more efficient. Anyone heard of this idea? go here to read and watch

Re: About Time...

And another thing..
Above the clerical level, govt. jobs are primarily filled by incompetent people. If they had good skills they'd be in the private sector. They operate daily in complete disregard of widely accepted fiscal practices and are at a complete disconnect with 'business' America. I know this because I live in an area awash with govt. workers. These are not people who can fix any problem. They couldn't run a greasy stick up a dogs @#s with a sledge hammer much less run a city / county / state / country. Govt. has long passed the place where it contributed more to our society than it took. All it does now is suck the life out of America for the sole purpose of sustaining itself. Govt. has become a huge, swolen tick on the neck of the American people.

Re: About Time...

I think I'm pretty clear. In fact I'm hoping the wrong people don't read that and give me trouble.
Our constitutional framers did a pretty good job of describing what they had in mind as the central govt.'s role. It's a crying shame to see what that govt. has become. At any level, the greater role a govt. takes on beyond it's most basic functions the greater it's propensity to harm those it's otherwise bound to serve.

Pipeguy, is one of those things that gov. does well, is to invade a country on fake WMD claims, eroneous terror training claims, then send in too few troops, with not enough armored vehicles, with no clear plan, then lie constantly to its citizens, about how things are going? As far as government getting involved in gas supply, look no further than Brazil, whose government embarked on a mission in the early 70's to wean thier country off of the Arab teat, by producing it's own fuels, which by next year will make it energy independant, at a price we Americans can only dream about!

Pipe,
Please don't hold anything back, tell us how you really feel. I couldn't agree with you more.

You're most welcome Pipe... was just pointing out that good governance can and does work, if it has the will and the proper people to implement it.

Ya know....

I think in unguarded and truthful moments many of us would admit that we might have a hard time doing this ourselves....

especially if the dog was alive and larger than 15 pounds....

Glasshouse tried it recently. See pic above
