Anybody have any doubt that planes were schedule to fall out of the sky in giant fireballs over the Atlantic this September 11th?

That's the first thing I thought, I hope they didn't get the information through illegal phone taps.

Re: 9-11-2006

I'm sure the ACLU and other liberal organizations will be out defending the perps. Accusing the UK and US of torture and of obtaining evidence through illegal wiretaps and without proper subpoena's.

I guess we should always wait until the terrorist act has occured before making any arrests. Of course aftward there is no one to arrest. They are with Allah drinking "rivers of wine" and having fun with their "72 virgins".

Anyone ever notice the contradiction there. A Muslim is not allowed to drink alcohol or have sex out of wedlock BUT in order to get them to blow themselves, and others, up they are told that Allah will give them 72 virgins and rivers of wine. Something don't quite jive.

I say Nuke em all and let GOD sort them out.

While I do not agree with what some of the ACLU does, by defending sum bags in general who should be hung from a very high tree, I feel they are neccessary. The entire US govt is built on checks and balances to keep everyone honest. It doesn't work so much like that anymore which is why we need other orginizations to keep the government honest.

I don't bother myself worrying about the crap I can not control. If I fall out of the sky, I die; there isn't much I can do about it. If it happens it happens, at the time if there is anything I can do I will... but worrying about it is of zero use.

Re: 9-11-2006

Gentlemen, (and ladies of course), I submit this thought for your consideration.

The stated goal of al qaeda is to destroy our way of life. Now think about that for a minute.

Since 9-11 and the towers we have given up a lot of our constitutional rights in the name of "protecting " us from terrorists. All communication is now monitored-- including land phone calls, cell phone calls, and anything sent out into cyber space. The government can now even check your records at the local library to see what you might be reading (does anyone anymore??). Our daily lives get interrupted- particularly the lives of the flying public--while what we are carrying is look over. One cannot walk into a courthouse, schoolhouse, or most any government building, without being electronically searched. If you live even in a moderate sized urban area your picture is taken 10 or more times a day without either your knowledge or permission. Now, today's startling revelation (funny how these things happen as we near election time) are having even more, negative affect upon our freedom of movement, right of privacy, and, in general, our American way of life. The huddled masses fear the terrorists, and are willing to live in a fascist state in return for promised protection.

Seems to me, the terrorists are attaining their stated goal inspite of our massive efforts in the middle east. Al quaeda can claim a victory on this one without even firing a shot.

jvcstone,

"If you live even in a moderate sized urban area your picture is taken 10 or more times a day without either your knowledge or permission."

I'm going to stop picking my nose in public. kidding aside your right "the terrorists are attaining their stated goal".

That is some nice work on your website, I've always wanted to put a stone scupture in front of the house, I just don't have the house for it (not nice enough).

I for one don't mind having my library records checked or standing in line for a plane if will help keep that plane from flying into a building or blowing into pieces.

They can even listen to my phone calls, although that IS NOT what they are doing. They are looking at what phone numbers you call and comparing them to KNOWN or Suspected terrorist numbers. Then if there is a match they pull that call up and listen to it. I say that is a good thing and I expect no less from my government.

I have not noticed any restrictions on my freedom of movement or american way of life. And I have not seen anyone "huddled" in fear.

If you want to see restrictions on you movement and real fear and a collapsed economy just let one of these "terrorists" detonate a nuke or fly a plane into a reactor and release a bunch of radiation.

Of course then the same people complaining about there loss of "righs" today would be blaming the government for not having these programs in place and would want their heads on a platter. I don't know why anyone would want to be President because no matter what he does 1/2 of the country wants him impeached or worse.

And of course since this happend "close to an election" that means "It is a lie and BUSH was behind it. And since Blair is his "puppet" he forced him to make all this up so republicans can get elected".

We need to take the politics out of it and look at the threat, address the threat as a country and not republicans and democrats.

P.S I think the searching of people going into schools, couthouses, and government buildings is because of our very own home grown "nuts" going in and shooting a bunch of people and has nothing to do with your rights being taken away because of an over reaction to terrorists.

I agree, Some people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

Re: 9-11-2006

Have you guys noticed since Canadians caught the terrorist plot up north through monitoring chat rooms and then phones of the suspects...it doesn't seem to be such a liberal talking point now about the "invasion" of our rights.

If one person's library record revealed research for a home grown nuclear weapon and snooping kept a million people from dying, I don't care who might be offended. It is a fact that the NSA cannot listen to even a fraction of overseas telephone calls, let alone domestic phone calls, both cell and land line. And humans are not listening anyway. There are computers that record only when key words or languages are used, flagging for attention of a human listener...now get serious..when is the last time you had a phone conversation that would kill you to have a computer screen it?

I am a pilot, and have not flown since 9/11 since I don't want to go through the mickey mouse BS anymore. My choice, my decision not to either fly myself or fly commercially although if I had to, I would prefer to get current again and fly myself since I will use racial profiling and not haul any Arabs on a plane I am flying.

Every time we talk about the liberties we have gave up...no one is really specific. I can't really think of one personal liberty I have surrendered....excpt flying, and that was my choice. I still own a lot of guns, I go where I want, I do pretty much what I want, I read what I want...and on and on.

I do feel like the terrorists win a battle every time we have to use expensive or extreme measures to protect the public, but what do you personally give up?

The news is reporting that the reservations the terrorists were making was for a dry run...I have not heard if it was supposed to be 9/11/06 for the real deal, but I still think it is when it happens, not if it happens with regard to another terrorist attack.

Re: 9-11-2006

It absolutely amazes me that ANYONE would put something as FRIKKIN' TRIVIAL as the PRIVACY of checking out their damn 'LIBRARY BOOK' over the LIFE of even 'ONE' FELLOW COUNTRY-MAN!!

I'm thoroughly convinced some of you would rather see an UNPRECEDENTED AMOUNT of AMERICANS DIE just so you could BLAME BUSH for something new . . .

For those of you who (and you know who you are) despise 'OUR' AMERICA, - - just admit it, - - and GET THE HELL OUT, - - before someone (like me) has to THROW YOU OUT!!

Rant over, - - for now . . .

I second that.

We pay people good money to worry about these things. Let them do their job.

This part of history might be in the hands of the divine anyway.

You can't rationalize the taking away of freedoms....there's no way to do it. The constitution says "no illegal searches", not "good guys shouldn't worry about being searched".

You don't have a choice anyway, so rationalize all you want.

Quote:
"As president, I strongly believe that my first duty as president is to support and serve the president," Bush said during a televised address from the East Room of the White House shortly after signing his executive order. "I promise the American people that I will not abuse this new power, unless it becomes necessary to grant myself the power to do so at a later time."

Re: 9-11-2006

this thread will get canned soon, but here goes a thought for you personal liberty types. We, as a whole, have given up more of our personal freedoms we have taken for granted for the war on drugs, then any sacrificed for the war on terror. Everytime a new law is passed, it certainly does not pass the acid test of the Framers of the Constitution. Denying guns to felons after the term of conviction, registry of sex offenders, denial of civil rights to felons who have completed their sentence (voting), no knock warrants, toll roads, etc, etc....I bet you can think of a few more.

Now I agree that registering sex offenders is a good thing, most felons should not posess firearms, and if I was a cop entering a drug house, I wouldn't want to knock first...but isn't the point of lost civil liberties? The Patriot Act has not affected me in anyway that I am aware of. If it bothers you to have a public library notify the feds if you are researching nuclear bombs or child ****, then don't do it! If you want to call Lebanon to gripe about Isreal and threaten elected public officials, then expect the FBI knock. If one American life is saved by the actions of an intelligence agency stopping a bomb making moron or a lunatic Muslim wanting to kill kids, then so be it...I'll vote for it and support it.

Has anyone lost any civil liberty that affects their life? Come on now, speak up!
