Anybody into cars should have an adjustable timing light. Have a blast.

oh now I understand. thanks teetor. I just watched the video, and didnt read anything. so the water is continually falling, but the light is stobing. easy enough. I would never build one though.

It isn't quite as easy as turning on a strobe light

yeah, but the the rest falls into place, I was having a problem with understanding the whole reverse, and pause time thing. It looks so freaky and fake, that i thought it was a hoax. But now I understand how it could be accomplished. I feel pretty stupid though.

Re: 1st To Build One Wins 10,000,000 Cool Points

don, I could duplicate that video in a few trys. Give me a few days, a few beers, a second timing light, some dyes and filters and I could come out with something pretty spectacular. Consider 2 different colors, say one green and one red, two alternating liquid drops and two filtered strobes. The green drops could fall at any velocity and the red ones could appear to rise, again at a chosen velocity.

More interesting would be a collision between the two or a study on fluid impacts.

I can think of a host of modifications that would make that even more spectacular:
  • Include a turbo encabulator circuit. This will allow you to supply inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors to better time the strobes.
  • Install two spurving bearings in a direct line with a pentametric fan. This will make the stream of drops appear to "curve" in mid air.
  • The operating point can be better maintained (as near as possible to the h.f. rem peak) by constantly fromaging the bitumogenous spandrels. This is a distinct advantage over the standard nivel-sheave that they appear to be using in the video presently.
And these are just some ideas to start.

One could even throw in a Tesla coil and add iron to the fluid.

Eh? What the heck? You can do it all with computer graphics.

I can't think of any reason to build something like that.
What good is it?

I guess if you were helping your kid with their 5th grade science project it would be cool.

That's the sort of gadget that would be an interesting converstion piece in an office or waiting room. Other than that, you're right Matt. It has little other utility.
