Pricing out hanging wallpaper
I have a bidding question. I am a painting contractor who has come across some jobs lately where they need wallpaper. I dont do wallpaper. I am in the process of networking, reaching out to get to know a few good wallpaper people in my area. As for my question, I am bidding a DQ that has wallpaper in the dining area. If There is roughly 400 sq. ft. of wall space that needs vinyl wallcovering what would be the cost per sq. ft. of wall space? I no that there are variable's such as cost of paper, speed of hanger etc. If I came in at $2.75 per sq. ft. of wall space would that be fair presuming that they are not using a "special paper". I know I am shooting in the dark but any responses would be appreciated. thanks
Gary

Pricing:
I use a book Means Detailed Construction Data Costs which can be found at your local major hardware store by the Contractors Desk or just as you walk in the store by the remodeling books. You can find everything you need to know there.

Don't know about your area, but here in Bay Area, CA, standard pricing fro wallpaper installation including adhesives (NOT paper) is $30 per single roll.
Walls have to be prepped, primed, and ready....

DaVinci, I am surprised that residential in SF area is priced by the S.R. When asked what price we can give on a per roll basis, we usually equate it to painting being priced by the gallon. Too many factors involved in each room to price a job by the roll.
gary, I don' do commercial, but commercial is "usually" priced by the yard (w/ 54" goods).
Let's see if my math is correct. You say 400 sf @ 2.75/sf. That's a total of $1100.
400 sf = 44.444 sq yds
commercial vinyl is 54" wide (1.5 yds)
44.444 sq yds would be 29.26 lin yds - OK call it 40 yds with waste.
40 yds @ $1100 would be $27.5/ yd. That's REAL high, from what I gather from my commercial buddies.
PWG and has more experience than I with commercial, he should be addressing this soon.
EDIT: AFTER THOUGHT
gary, if you are looking for a qualified installer in your area, go to the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers website (ngpp.org) and click on "Find a paperhanger" (or just click here ) and plug in your zip code.
OR tell us where you live and we (PWG, Chris N. or I) can give you some names. Back channel if you wish.
EDIT AGAIN: Just called PWG, he's on a mini vacation. Says that sometimes small jobs can fetch larger money because of the PIA factor and larger companies don' wanna touch them. But again, it depends on location and going rate. Obviously NYC pays better than out in the sticks.

Mr. Bill,
It's not as high as you might think if he has to supply the wallcovering as well. His intitial post indicated that the cost of paper was one of the variables.

Some bastard gave me a bad batch of Venison jerky and I was stuck on the can for a while.
Just kidding, it was so good it barely lasted 24 hours and I'm not joking.

Yeah, sorry about that, if I'd have sent you the "good stuff" you'd be in there until at least Labor Day.

Yeah, the mind is going....so I just re-registered. Couldn't let "da Arch" throw one out and not follow up. He can run, but he can't hide

With your pack of wolves after me, I can't even run, let alone hide.
I think that cat door needs nailing shut, before he drags another mangled critter in.
