Swing Prep Coat leaves a slightly sandpaper-like feel to the wall when applied.

Shark grip silica sand added to your favorite sizing primer.
I use that for my Venetian plaster, and Marmorino finishes as a scratch coat.

Sand the Drywall.

Prime walls quickly with out wiping down walls make sure the dust from the sanding is being kicked up by your helper as much as possible while you are spraying

will give you a nice gritty texture on walls

Well, since this is in the wallpaper thread I'm going way out on a limb and assume he's papering after sizing. And by the way, this isn't sizing, but prep coating, to pick a nit. sizing is a thinned adhesive rolled on the wall to promote adhesion.

Anyway, Swing paints ltd. out of Montreal has been making the best wall prep system for decades. It called, appropriately enough, Wallpaper Prep Coat, or just Prep Coat for short. It's virtually clear, showing a slight greenish- blue tint that is just enough to see where you've been with the roller or brush.

Prep coat is an interesting product. It adheres to glossy surfaces so that you can paper over the in as quick as 15 minutes (I'd avoid doing it that soon, though). If you splatter it on semi gloss woodwork, or marble counter tops, it will scratch off clean after wetting it slightly. Yet it is hands down the best surface to install wallpaper over, providing the necessary tooth to give a great bond between paper and wall.

The only downside is good luck getting this product. It's difficult, so maybe email them and see who's carrying it near you, if anyone.
