Bidding wallpaper

I am an experienced painting contractor and have recently come across a commercial job that requires me to bid for wallpaper sizing and application. I have done wallpaper before, but don't have a great idea of what to charge for it on a larger scale.

The paper is a textile wall covering, medium duty, MCD wallcoverings. I am assuming the cost of the paper is included in the bid.

Thanks

I'm not so sure about specific pricing, since I only remove wallpaper. But I can say that sizing is the easiest part to bid, since it's painting- you could figure that one out like any other job. As far as applying, why don't you sub out the work? Are you experienced enough to do this job in a timely manner and make a profit? Just curious.

I would assume all materials potentially being used, including paper, would be included in the bid.

Subbing

Thanks for your input. I probably will sub it out, but I need to bid the job, get the job, and then find a sub.

profit

If I did it myself I could probably make a profit. I just wouldn't be quite as fast as pro wallpaper-er. I might be in a lower profit margin for that portion of the work. I think it will all even out with all of the painting involved in the job.

It is a Caribou coffee. The color schedule has 13 different colors plus wallpaper. Now we know why a cup of coffee costs $5...

Thanks for your input

Not sure, tell him to hop on it.. After further consideration of the industrial size 55" wallpaper, I will definately be subbing it, but I still need to bid for the work.

Going price will be dictated by your area. Commercial vinyl is priced by the linear yard. Lin yd is determined by the surface square feet, divided by 12. This figure will give you a small overage percentage for waste and defects. Price to install vinyl runs anywhere from $4 lin yd to $10-12 range for high end and small jobs with $6-8 being average. Adhesive might be included in this price, or might not. Find out from the GC if he is providing the paste, or if the hanger needs to. Again, this will be dictated by your area. Find a good hanger in your area, and ask them what they charge to hang commercial vinyl. Add a couple bucks on to that, and submit the price. But your best bet is to find a good hanger in your area, and explain your situation. He or she can guide you along in the process. If you need a recommendation for a local hanger, let me know and I can usually find one.
Remember, if its a big job, you could lose a lot of $$$ if not a very good or fast installer. And also be aware if someone is asking you to install over old vinyl, this is against the firecode in may many major cities.

BTW, it's called priming. No one sizes anymore.

Definitely hire a sub if you are not fast and experienced. We had a project that needed several rooms papered as well. I bid it based on what it would take me to hang - I'm meticulous, but don't hang enough to be fast.
This guy came in and had everything done in little more than a day. It would've taken me twice that. Professionals are WORTH every penny.
It freed me up to focus on selling other jobs and completing some of the faux finishes.

If you have plans and/or specs..why dont you have a sub give you a price based on that and then bid the job based on the price the sub gives you?
