Painting Over A Faux Finish

I have a bedroom in my house that has one wall with a feather painted faux finish on it. I want to repaint the entire room. Do I need to sand the faux finish wall first before I prime it or will it just be ok to prime over the faux finish. There is only one coat of glaze in the faux finish.

Thanks, Pat

Going back with latex? Personally, I'd go over it with an orbital. 80# to start and 150# before primer.

Sanding up close allows you to see all of the minor imperfections and correct them prior to painting, not real critical when dealing with light/flat colors. Darks and glosses will show a fly tur*.

Thanks Tetor,
How about sanding with a drywall pole sander?

If the faux is a pos/neg (add/sub) glaze using a feather, the chances are huge it will show through the primer and top coats (texture-wise)

A pole sanding won't cut it
It really needs a bit of the ol' orbital there

I also would not mess around and probably hit it with 80 first
