Window Sub Rates

I'm a window and door sub contractor looking to hook up with lowes, home depot or sears. Does anyone have any info on the pay rates/piece prices that these companies pay. Thank you very much for any help.

Very crappy pay. But extremely steady crappy pay, so if you bust your ass every single day, you have a good chance of breaking even. Where they really kill you is your service area, measuring, dealing with retards that work at the store, and dealing with the stuff promised to the customer that you can provide, and aren't being paid to provide.

They actually have pay sheets per installation, that states what they pay. I have a sheet from 2005 somewhere. Maybe someone else on here has some...

Re: Window Sub Rates

We've worked for all 3 at on time or another. Sears was decent pay for installation until you figure out they send you all over the state while bringing some one else into your area from where ever they sent you.

At HD which technically worked for their primary sub. Big Orange was no help at all when they stopped paying us.

Blowes provided the most consistant work. We had one employee that did all the measures and one man jobs, brought the crew in for bigger window jobs and kitchens. It wasn't great, but at least profitable and we could count on a check nearly every week. But man can they screw up a kitchen. That and the politics is why we left them.

When I'm in the office tomorrow I'll look up the window rates and pm them to you. They must change based on location, so I don't know if it will help much.

Good LUck

Sorry, I just noticed it's your first post. I won't be able to pm until you post some more. That means you may have to remind me.

Good Luck

Re: Window Sub Rates

Thank you guys for the replies.Looks like i may be swaying away from the big 3. If anyone could post some pay sheets or dollar amounts per window/ per door it would help alot. Certainly appreciate your time.

Isn't dictating pay one of the big IRS red flags for companies employing subcontractors? According to my accountant you can do all your work for one company as long as that company does not A)dictate pricing B)pays you in a manner that allows you to make a profit and C)are not discouraged from taking work from other companies. Sounds like they are skirting with disaster on A and B to me.

One good way to find out pricing is go to the boxes and act like a customer. Their pay sheets will tell you nothing about what they are actually charging for installs.

I don't believe it is.

There are many trades that have "rates".

Just some examples:
Hanging sheetrock by the sheet/board.
Installing siding by the square.
Installing baseboard by the Lineal Foot.
Installing tile by the square foot, etc, etc....

Re: Window Sub Rates

In Colorado, HD pays about $80.00 per unit. Less than half of what I would get if it werent sub work.

Re: Window Sub Rates

The OP didn't know how much to charge, so didn't charge enough and now can't even afford to post anymore questions.

Good Luck
