Shower Glass
This is my first post here but I have gained a lot of knowledge from doing searches here, great forum. I would like some opinions on something that is not in my line of work.
I have a customer that is having a frameless shower installed during a remodel, 1/2 inch glass. The shower is fitted into a corner but including the sections that connect to the walls there is five angles to the glass due to the glass passing over a garden tub. The issue is the door has a 1/4 inch gap between the sides of the door and the joining glass. Also there is no joint in the five angles that has a tight joint, you can see the gap or slide a paper through every one. Is the way you would expect this shower glass to be installed or is the installer being somewhat sloppy with this? The shower would have to leak if water is splashed on the joints os the sides of the door. Any opinions would be welcome and thanks, Andy |

Re: Shower Glass
We would call that a "Euro-Style" shower surround. The company we use miters the angles and seals them so there would be no gaps. There is always a gap around the door on a euro style door because of the way they work and the way they are assembled. 1/4 inch is a lot bigger than the gaps we have, the gaps are usually 1/8 or smaller around the sides, the bottom gap will be bigger.
Part of my job is to inform the customer about the pros and cons of every choice they make and discussing water splashing out of euro style surrounds is just part of the job. |

Re: Shower Glass
The ones that I've put in have a little transparent silicone(or some such) flexible seal on the door edge--kind of like a door sweep but vertical. First tome I thought they looked phony, but they work. If you know mfg. they probably show details on their web site.

Re: Shower Glass
Thanks for the replies Mike and neolitic, it seems the glass contractor is insisting he can fill gaps which is as much as 1/8 inch in places with a clear silcone and it will never be seen. The home owner told them if it shows it will be ripped out. We will see but thanks again for the replies.
