roof or soffit vent?

I'm renovating a kitchen, and I will be installing a vented hood over the stove. No shortage of space to run duct work, but there is not a wall to come out off. I'm trying to decide if it would be better to come out the roof or out of the soffit. If I go out of the roof(4/12pitch) I will only have a 12' run. If I go out of the soffit I will have to run about 20' and the soffit is about 5" wide.

Roof............ You don't want that greasy, moist air going out the soffit.

Get a roof vent designed for range hoods. They have a baffle in them that opens when the range hood is running, and closed when not in use.

Roof. Definitely.

Make sure to screw all connections before using foil tape. Have a grease fire in the duct, and it may save your bacon.
