Porch Columns Or Posts
I've been on a 'porch streak' lately and most have included adding or replacing posts/columns. I have a few sources but am looking for more especially anything that's not concrete or wood and they must be nice, not those 2-piece covers that they sell at the box stores. All input is appreciated.

Re: Porch Columns Or Posts
I've used the posts at the box stores. They are one piece molded with a 2-3" pipe inside. They are nice looking and come in a coupe three styles. I forget the name but if you need a name I can find it. These are not concrete or word, and are one piece.

Are you talking about porch post veneers? or ALL new posts? We've had great luck with the fiberglass models.

Re: Porch Columns Or Posts
In this instance I need to replace the posts. The HO is from up-north and has no idea of what a Formosan Termite is. They are not here yet but expected in 3-4 yrs., I am replacing as little as possible with wood.
Looks like I may have to start ANOTHER business.

Re: Porch Columns Or Posts
So long as the load fits within the range of the proposed diameter of the columns in the area your replacing without looking gawdy, this sounds like the prime location for the precast fiberglass columns. They cut very easy with a standard masonry blade in a skill saw and are actually pretty stout units.
I'm constantly on the look out for any job where columns will fit in or add elegance to a job since they really are'nt all that expensive, but look like you spent alot. Very good asthetics with very small investment. Have seen them used in what would be an otherwise standard kitchen remodel and wow is all I can say. |

Re: Porch Columns Or Posts
The current est. is based on the arrival of Formosan termites in the near 3-8 yr. future. That is why I want to stay away from wood.
The current project is trusses and the posts non load bearing. Most modern (post 40's) homes here are not load bearing.

Teetor - I've just found these guys recently and just placed a large ($13k) order. Their product seems great and they are nice to deal with. They are in Virginia.
