Nichiha

I installed Hardie Board on some dormers for a customer. They now want the gable ends of the house done but the lady of the house does not like how thin (5/16") the boards are. It appears the only option is Nichia who advertises 1/2" thick boards. Anyone have experience with this brand?

Thanks Joel

Haven't used it yet, but look forward to it after a bad brush with Pre-finished Hardie.

Is this a lap siding or a sheet material you're using on the gables?

Re: Nichiha

Both, had fairly good results. They were small reverse gable dormers. We used sheet goods for the dormer gables and lap siding for the sides. What problems did you have?

Re: Nichiha

I had some pre-finished Vertical siding that was damaged due to the protective film not covering the sheets corectly. I waited almost a month for replacement materials. The replacement had the same problems Hardie has now told me to install it and they will pay for a new paint job.. I've set up and cleard my schedule for three weeks twice now and lost a good deal of income over this. You can tell by looking at the sides of the stack that the sheets are folded over into the pile.

Re: Nichiha

Here's another stack that has a different problem. Wheel marks wore through the protective sheet and indented the siding. Also has damage to the edges from hitting the stops when making the stack.

Was that from the manufacturer or the supplier? Regardless the end result is problems for you, thankfully my experience has been good the customer just wants a different look.

Re: Nichiha

In almost ten years I've never had a problem with it. I guess it's bound to happen sooner or later. The thing I don't get is how can they let this happen twice Where the heck was quality controll? This was the second time around for this project, you think someone would have made sure it was good before sending it out.

James Hardie now has 1/2" thick siding, called Artisan.

Saw some at one of my lumber suppliers annual builders show. It looks pretty good and the ends are tongue and groove at the butt joints.
