New Cabs And European Hinges

I need to build a small bar for a customer. I want to start using the European Hinges on the doors. I've looked at Rockler, Constantine's so far and would like some input on what to use. I don't need Cadillac just decent ones.
I figure on setting up the drill press for the holes. Any suggestions on installation from you guys that have used them?
Best places to order from would also be helpful.

Thanks and Y-All have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Don't know about best, but I mostly buy from Superior Distributing Co. in Indy.
Also use these guys sometimes (they are right down the street from baby sis)

Yea Rockler carries Blum. Any further help available? I don't want to tax your fingers too much.

I find that the Blum "Compact" series handles most "normal" door situations.
Move up one notch from the bottom grade and you can get vertical, horizontal, and in/out adjustment without the huge bulk of the big "clip" syle hinges. And they are available up to 1 5/8" overlay for face frame edge mount, and also available a surface mount that wil let you have any extreme overlay you want on a face frame.

We buy them locally from our cabinet hardware supplier.

Re: New Cabs And European Hinges

There are a few good types, Blum happens to be one of them. Buy a good 35MM bit (carbide)and Do a few test runs on some scrap, hinge should not bottom out, allow an extra 1/32- 1/16 for depth, follow manufactures guidelines for location, make sure the door is flat and don't tip while drilling and don't try to drill too fast. Most drill press tables are too small for that type of drilling, i made a larger table top for my drill press to prevent any mishaps like tipping or scratching the doors, Its much cheaper than buying new doors.

Re: New Cabs And European Hinges

My local hardware store only carries 35mm in Blum, but maybe they make something else? I like the Blum, they are user friendly and adjustable all ways.

I've used my 3/8" drill and a forstner bit with a stop to drill them on site with no problems. (Don't have that extra coffee.)

Forgot to mention important "pay attention to"... Since the cup bore is both deep and close to the edge of the stile, you have to be very mindfull of not using an edge profile that is very deep or the bore and profile will cut into each other, resulting in a definite .

All the Blum I have used were 35mm. I do recall seeing other (like 32mm) cups in catalogues, but I don't know the hinge brand.
