Kitchen Remodel

Here is a before and after of a kitchen that we finished last month. Small kitchen but it is now twice as big as it was. I think it turned out great for the budget that we were working with.

Before:

After:

Cheers

Re: Kitchen Remodel

I'm curious about the gap between the uppers and the ceiling. Is there a reason for it? Why not just put the uppers flush to the ceiling or add some kind of molding to cover the gap?
I like the backsplash; simple but adds a nice POP.

Agree. I believe little roaches always prefer warm, dark gap/corners like those to breed & infestation their colonies.

I thought the same thing, that small a gap there looks really odd, begs for crown.

Other than that nice job!!

Re: Kitchen Remodel

Looks very good

Not sure if its a regional thing or personal preference but I always leave the space at the top. Unless it works out better being flush to the ceiling.

I sometimes put rope lighting up there on a switch gives a really cool effect

Re: Kitchen Remodel

This project was completed on a very tight budget... with that said the HO did not have the cash to add the crown although this is what I wanted aswell... but I did not want to do it for free. It seems lately once you open the "free work door"... it never closes.

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated

Nice work. Did you have to place beams where your tore the wall out? Were they hidden?

Next time add a filler there my friend. What I am seeing looks very unprofessional. It will have a huge impact on your reputation.

For instance, do you think a doctor who pulls in $850,000 per year would hire you after seeing what you did at the top of these upper cabinets?
The cost of a flat filler would have been minimal. Besides, it's always easier to do the job right than have to try and add it after the customer complains about it.

The change looks good...is your glass door upper cabinet missing a few shelves?

I dont think another potential customer will base there decision solely on a picture of one job. The final 'look' of a job has much less to do with craftmanship and much more with customer taste. I have done some ugly ass jobs, but in the end the customer was thrilled. Everytime I show those pictures during a presentation the potential customer comments on the color scheme, layout, or something else that we as contractors do not have the final say on. As far as I can tell from that picture he did a very good job and has nothing to be ashamed of by leaving it open up there.

Re: Kitchen Remodel

Nice job and I know your customer. I have one of them coming up and right now I'm glad to have that. I lost Tiger Woods and Celine Dion's jobs on Jupiter Island, the competition is brutal right now. Worst of all is that my long time buddies are beating me up.

Re: Kitchen Remodel

Looks sharp Tattoo I think that space looks just fine above the cabinets. Around here you see that too.

Give the customer what he/she wants for the money. Different strokes for different folks. Big improvement and I bet the customer was satisfied.

Re: Kitchen Remodel

I call the gap a "shadow line" and I wind up doing the same thing for the very same reason, homeowner too cheap for crown. I also do a shadow line when dealing with ceilings being out of level or wavy.

IMO, a shadow line looks better than having the cieling wave at you all along the crown.
