Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

A customer had new granite counter tops installed in his kitchen, and now is considering darker cabinets. The house is only 6 years old so he doesn't want to replace them. I would like to sand, stain, and polyurethane. I'll remove the doors and drawers but do everything else in place. Any tips or trade secrets would be appreciated

Take the doors and drawer fronts to a pro stripper and finsh them yourself?

Or is it possible to just replace the doors and drawer fronts with all new ones instead? Might be cheaper/quicker. Of course that still leaves the cabinet boxes.

Ron,

do you know what the existing finish is? If you want darker cabinets then might not have to strip them. What about tinted laquer? If it's compatible with the existing finish, then It sure would save alot of man hours. Are the doors raised panels, slabs or what. It's the stripping that I try to avoid.

Finish all the doors and drawer fronts at the shop and use a HVLP onsite for the faceframes. Have fun.

Steve.
