Insulation For Noise Factor Downtown?

We're remodeling an old commercial building in a small downtown area into a three bedroom apartment and looking for the best ideas for insulating against the outside road noise? Road runs along two sides of building. In planning stage now. Appreciate your input and ideas.

Whats the bldg made of now? brick? solid brick with plaster directly on wall?
frame with brick veneer? wood frame?
age of the building? how are the windows?

there's too much info still needed before you can say what your best solution would be.

I agree. You need to post details of the existing structure.

Windows- use a laminated glass package. Although laminated glass is marketed primarily for security it also provides great sound reduction. There are several options available such as Keep Safe, Armor Glass by Gorell and SecurEST by Alside. I used it in my house and for several clients who are very satisfied with the results.

Need more info, but ,the best windows money can buy and if you have the room, add another wall in front of old wall, rememeber to have aleast a 2 inch gap between the 2 walls, the noise will get trapped between the walls . This is always and has been the only way to eliminate noise, we built near a big air port years ago and found this works great.Dont let guys tell you about this new insulation ,drywall etc that will help, nothing does.
