Re: How Do Other General Contractors Estimate?

the software it help but I don't trust %100 to machine , I trust myself when I go somebody house to give estimate.. there are many ways to calculate how much it would cost and one of the ways is see how long its going to take , how many people will be used and how much value has the work like roof and painting. there are ways to do it and the best way is learned through the years with a lot of books and practice.. www.4uremodel.com best work all the time

@JDCOLLUM

I have background in computer science and have been doing all my estimates in my excel sheets. I would love to compare notes with you.

Re: How Do Other General Contractors Estimate?

I've been making my own spreadsheets for a while. I figured out how to make drop down boxes so my labor and material prices that aren't used don't have to be on the front page.

I attached my finished copy I would send to the home owner.

How to price and what to charge, can take many years to learn. I look back 14 years ago and wonder how the hell I ever made any money with all of it I left on the table.

Re: How Do Other General Contractors Estimate?

On the attic door install, I don't care what "others" charge. I figure how long it will take me, cost of materials, up charge for o&p and throw out the number.

I usually give them a bit of a break as Im already there.

Try www.keelestimator.com.
Easy to use estimating software for builders who really figure their jobs.
I once lost a quick grand using excel for a late night estimate due to formula error. All automatic with this software. Been using for two years now without a hitch. Its 20 dollars per month to use. First month is one dollar. Once you figure out how to connect it is a piece of cake. Give it a look.
