General Remodel Question.
Does anyone use a general check off list for doing a remodel Job? It seems like I always forget to buy something that forces me back to the supplier in the middle of the day when I should be at the site. Right now I just make my lists out of my head. Would like to see how others do it. ( maybe I can get organized)

Re: General Remodel Question.
i make mental lists by walking myself thru the project. What will i do first, then what, then what. That helps me track my supplies. One of the things that i have started to do is buy extras of the small cheap stuff. ie. outlet covers, switch plates, i buy enough for the house to replace them, but i also buy enough to keep a few extras in the truck.

Re: General Remodel Question.
At the start of a project i have a list of things to be done in the order im doing em, also with notes on what i need to complete that part. The only items i total before hand even if they come out of order is lumber and drywall and both are delivered when i get to the first time im using one or the other.

Re: General Remodel Question.
Start by writing down everything, the brain can be confused/distracted easily. At the end of today's job, I walked through with a pad and made notes of everything that will be needed tomorrow. Consult with employees. A pack of sanding screens can end up costing you $100.00 if you have to send someone to go get them while the job is running.

The Sanding Screen thing is exactly what I am talking about. That is why I am thinking of making a master list that will have every possible thing I will need for the Job and make sure it is delivered the first day if storage is available. One section having the material list. Another section for for soft tools (things that get thrown out) Like sandpaper, rollors, screens etc. |

Re: General Remodel Question.
Most remodeling jobs are hard to order too much ahead of time do to lack of storage room on a job.
I order all my framing material and have it delivered first. What I do at the end of each day is do a walk through with my notepad and make a list of the next days material needs to make a full day of work. I either pick them up on the way home or on the way to the job in the morning. Rarely ever have to make a mid day run. My brain is too small to put the notebook there....LOL
