Floor Protection On Hard Surfaces

What are you guys useing for floor protection on hard surface floors?

I've been using CoroPlast (4X8X1/8 plastic sheets) but with all petroleum products the cost is going up.

Thanks,

Charlie

Re: Floor Protection On Hard Surfaces

On hardwoods we use carpet padding (denim type) with masonite over it and taped at the seams, we then cover with 6 mil poly and tape. We perforate the the poly out in the middle of the room a bit, just to allow for vapor movement if the floor is rather new or we're over a crawl space or concrete that we suspect isn't sealed.

We know to perforate if we find moisture under the poly after a day or so.

For hard surfaces, like tile that won't scratch we use just masonite taped at the seams.

For long term, high risk,
I like 6 mil visqueen covered with ½"
homasote, blue taped at the seams.

I know what to not use... don't use red rosin paper. A builder did that in the winter here once, and with the slush on the feet, the red dye bled out of the paper and made spots on the unfinished hardwood pink.

USG makes a nice thick paper for this purpose. DalTile is carrying it.

Here are some sites that sell protective products:

I think these guys were at the Baltimor Remodelers show. I really endeared myself when I asked a rep if one of their products was "glorified cardboard" in the final hours of a 3 day show as they were getting ready to break down. I thought he was going to jump on me and chew my eyeballs out.
