Cut (trench) In Concrete
I'm turning an apartment, and when I removed the tub surround (because of water damage) found a 6" wide by about 4' long trench under the tub in the slab where they must have 'forgot' to fill after they 'forgot' to place a pipe in the slab. I believe it goes all the way down to dirt. Anyone got an idea how to fill it without pulling the tub too, what to fill it with (grout? foam?) or an opinion if it even needs filling? TIA

What pipe did they forget? The drain line? ![]() If all of the plumbing is installed, intact and working properly, a bit of a hole under the tub is a complete non-issue, as long as it is supported properly and there are no cold air/insulation problems. But if you're worried about creepy-crawlies or whatever, just throw some mortar in to close it off. |

Yeah, it looks like it was cut to place a missing drain line. It doesn't weaken the tub, but it does smell a bit musty. I guess I'll do what I can to close it off.

Re: Cut (trench) In Concrete
I don't get the part of the sentence (it was cut to place a missing drain line). Is that like, yes we have know bananas today?
If you can see it why is it a problem to fill it? A better question might be why spend the time to mess with it. If your flipping a apartment it's best not to spend time on non issue's. But that's just my opinion. |

Let sleeping dogs lie. People rent nice carpet and a fresh paint job. Not filled trenches under tubs. Spend your money on the bling.
