Re: Code Question In Ohio

your life could be worse. In the city of Annapolis a permit is required to perform any repair or improvement that costs over 500.00 This includes painting. Permits take mnimum of 4-6 weeks to be approved I remember standing in line to apply for two of 3 permits I needed for a bathroom floor replacement. Demolition permit, building permit, plumbing permit, The lady in front of me was applying for a painting permit. She had to provide plans of what was to be painted and a plat showing the house location on the lot. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I asked why she needed all that information. The clerk told me that they needed to make sure that the paint didn't encroach on the set backs. We're talking adding 4 thousandths of an inch. They also made me do a drawing of the entire house with the floor to show the location. Reason given so they can find the bathroom.

Re: Code Question In Ohio

I guess it puts my problems in perspective, but it also reinforces the idea in my head that if I had to deal with that kind of BS on a regular basis for every nitpicking little thing, I'd probably look for another line of work. There is something to be said for a semi rural small town vs. a metropolitan area.

that is insane....paint encroaching on the set back.
It's why governments should be made smaller wherever possible and given less power whenever possible-or you get beauracratic stupidity just like that.

It is all about the money and how much they can bring in and job security. The city of Annapolis covers approx 10 square miles. Although it is called a city it is more like a town. They have more building inspectors than some surrounding counties.

Hey Tman, I'm in Findlay we have no inspection, licensing. We do have to pay for a permit. You could build a house out of toothpics no one would say anything. Wish we had it though it would weed out a lot of people that should'nt be in the biz.

Plumbers have to be licensed and inspected thats it.
