Cement Boarding Walls

I have a small bathroom remodel that I will be starting next week and will be installing tile on the walls surrounding the tub. My question is, Is it acceptable to use a construction adhesive to glue the 1/2" cement board to the walls and use roofing nails to fasten it or should I stick with what Ive always done and use the cement board screws? I've seen a few tile guys on jobs use the roofing nails but Im not too sure about it? Just wondering if its worth saving the 10bucks for a small ass box of screws.

It's to 'code' according to the CBU manufacturers.

I would dump that cement board and get yourself some DensShield instead. You'll be dumb-founded at the difference.

I use SS screws or nails in all potentially wet situations. How much extra does it cost to do a job right?

My Dad taught me to do the job right and screw the code. Code is the MINIMUM that you can do and pass inspection.

Build right and you will pass inspection.

Re: Cement Boarding Walls

Contruction adhesive is fine for the walls and so are roofing nails. I usually use 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 nails depending on cement board thickness.

What is DensShield? Is it that stuff that comes in a roll? I havent had much time today to do any real research on it online or supplyhouse wise. What makes it better? PROS / CONS?

Re: Cement Boarding Walls

It's similar to drywall. Cuts and installs identically to drywall. Has a water proof coating on it and ready to tile. As long as you tape and thinset the seams it's waterproof and fully warrantied. Home Depot even carries it.

Teetor you use SS screws for putting up CBU, but you don't care about grab rails having to be installed in studs? Don't see too much consistency in the thinking there. What's the thought process?
