Cabinet Re-face (doors Only)

Help! I started a 'minor rehab' of our kitchen where I am planning to do tops, sink/fixture, refinish cabinet faces (sand, prime, 2 coats s/g white enamel-DONE! ), replace cabinet doors. That's right! I only want to replace the doors NOT THE ENTIRE CABINETS!

My house was built in 1969 and it has the typical 30" wall units and standard base units in the kitchen. All have face frames and each unit measurement is a multiple of 3 - pretty standard stuff here. The doors are flat panel one piece and 1/2 - 5/8 thick. I'm wanting to put in Shaker style panel doors with Euro hinges to give it an updated look but without spending a small fortune on it. I will be doing ALL the work - I just need to find someplace with reasonable prices for a RTF (ridgid thermal film) or a paintable maple/hardwood mix, etc. unit that I will paint. When I talk to local cabinet dealers they act like I'm from another galaxy! "Oh!...That's gonna be really difficult. Blah blah blah..."

What am I missing? Seems easy enough to me to give a manufacturer the cabinet opening sizes and the desired overlay and BAM! they come up with the doors for me in a short time. Can anybody recommend a door manufacturer I might be able to door business with on this project? I appreciate your replies and perhaps for enlightening me to the reasons why I might be facing resistance by locals!

Try Decorative Specialties. They have very high quality thermofoil doors. They can bore them for euro hinges also.

Re: Cabinet Re-face (doors Only)

shaker doors.......all you need is a table saw and 3/4" x2 1/4" pre planed stock..and a sheet of G2S plywood...oak cherry maple...a simple 1/4" groove 3/8 deep in the stiles and rails and nibble a tounge of the rails 3/8 that is the simplest form of jointery known. Glue the rails to the stiles and let the panel float....1 hour per door once you are set up.
Or call us and we will make them for you....plus shipping.

I have used Decorative Specialties for years. They do a great job. Their URL is http://decore.com/ I usually use them when I need the doors in a hurry. I have a local door shop that we like to use but they are often 3 weeks or further out. Decorative Specialties seems to be able to turn doors out in about a week.

I have never actually ordered them through Lowe's but I know they do offer them. I have spoken with the cabinet specialists about them in the past.

Re: Cabinet Re-face (doors Only)

Awesome! Thanks guys, for the tips for getting doors!

Does anyone want to give me a guess as to what kind of $$ I'm looking at for the doors (about 20 doors and 5 drawer fronts and a sink base fake drawer front panel)? If not I unnerstand!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all !

Re: Cabinet Re-face (doors Only)

I'm using Pentco near Vancouver for Shaker style doors for one of my clients. Costing about $700 for 11 doors, 5 drawer fronts and one under-sink panel. I still need to machine the recesses for the euro-style hinges myself. However they are otherwise finished ... Painted a frost white.

They are non standard sizes so the likes of Home Depot and Rona couldn't help. Leadtime is 3 weeks.

Your going to have to figure your own door sizes.
