Business changeover

Im new to the forum, other than posting something in swap section, this
is my first post.
I have a question aimed at anyone that has started up a home imp. business
and ended up changing over to a specialty business. I currently do just about anything but prefer to do baths(its very lucrative if I can sell one).
Im considering changing the name of business to advertise just the one specialty but I am not sure if its a good idea or not.In Md, I would have to
get another license, more bonding ,more insurance and so on if I decided to run two business. Ive been in business for ten years,(6 here and 4 in Co.).
Theres a ton of competition here with other licensed contractors and with unlicensed "handyman people". I dont however see alot of specialists in baths though I see that every contractor offers bath remodeling. Most of my baths come from referrals but I figure if I advertise for the specialty,
I would do better(kinda like selling one caddy vs selling four used cars).
Any thoughts or recommendations???

I love to do baths myself, Just simply don't get enough of them to specialize in them solely.

Charles,

I live in PA and we have very little regulation on construction here compared to other states so I don't know if this will work for you or not, but this is what I would do:

If you're not already, Incorporate.
Register your old business name as a fictitious name under your corp.
Register a new fictitious name for your specialty bath company under your corp.(fictitious name registrations are done through your Secretary of State's office i believe)

Now you can do business under both names and promote them together or seperately as you prefer. You could even market the new one as "upscale bath remodels" and do any "non upscale" work under your old company name etc.

I guess I would have to check with the md home improvement comm.
Unfortunately, they arent much help, but I like your idea.
Maybe I need to find a business lawyer.
Thanks for the info...
