Wireless Networking......printer

I have a Dell dimension laptop, Linksys wireless-G router and my desktop. Both 'puters are running XP. The laptop works to the point of getting on the web, now I want to use my office printer.

How do I do this? In English please, I've been to enough websites that read like alphabet soup. TIA

Start, Control Panel, Printers and other Hardware, Printers and Faxes, click on the printer icon of the printer you want to share, the task plane in the left will then give you more options, click share this printer and it will guide you from there.

Teetor -

I am all wireless at home (wireless laptop) and wireless printer - I had to go into my printer menu (physically on the printer) and into the wireless option and enter the wireless code for the router (same code you enter in the computer) into the printer. I don't know how to do it so it works directly from the computer to the printer bypassing the router. Not sure if that helps, but all I know is it works

Re: Wireless Networking......printer

After you do what MD said then add a printer on the laptop. It is under control panel/printers. The wizard should walk you through it faily easily.
If you still have problems let us know. I will do a step by step.

Re: Wireless Networking......printer

I gave up yesterday before I got too PO'd. I got into wizards, making a disk, and on and on. I flubbed making the disk because the wizard insisted on using a 3.5 and the laptop doesn,t have that drive so I tried to make a CD work, big failure. Then I started having net connection problems and the dialup window kept popping up.....I'm on cable and have never seen that on this computer.

I figured that it was best to quit before I went to the truck and solved the problem permenantly. I'll try again when I get some time this week, It will be easier when the wife is not around distracting me.

That's one of the drawbacks of being married to a young, hot chick.

Teetor - the magic answer for you to all your tech questions -

DIAL A NERD. Find one of those local computer wizards who come out to your house and do all this stuff for you. You wife is in the IT field right? Doesn't she know about 1000 of these little brainiacs running around just buzzing, beeping and vibrating, dying to caress a keyboard today?

Re: Wireless Networking......printer

md, have you been hanging around my wife? Actually, I did 'rob the cradle'. She's younger than my baby sister and quite attractive.

Mike, I could have one of her techies do it but then I don't learn anything. I'm trying to keep up in this 'puter world.

Re: Wireless Networking......printer

Teetor I just had the same problem. What I did was as md said you have to share your printer. Make sure your firewalls and such are not on. Then I took the installation cd for the printer and ran it in the new laptop and installed it then it hooked up and worked.

Simple, huh. Dave.

Re: Wireless Networking......printer

I got through the sharing part OK, the disk part fouled me up and ticked me off. Who uses 3.5 floppies anymore?

In the process of becoming ticked-off, I also forgot to install the printer software in the laptop
