Wireless Network Storage.
Hey guys I have a 200 gig external hard drive I use for back up and storage. I do not have a desk top only a laptop so I have to plug the drive in every time I need it. I also have a wireless network in my house. Does any use a wireless adaptor to access your storage drives wirelessly?

Re: Wireless Network Storage.
I have a computer that I have setup as a printer/file server. I don't know if a wireless USB adapter would work in your case, only because most of the external hard drives that I am familiar with usually supply the hard drive with power by the USB wire. Therefore I fear your hard drive wouldn't work without that power supply, unless it has some other sort of power supply?
Also I would be worried about the lack of firewall, especially on a wireless netowork. Anyone will be able to tap into your hard drive and view/edit/delete. Have you considered buying an old computer on ebay and using that as a file server? You really don't need anything special. |
