what keywords would you type in for..?

If you are in need of roofing or any other services and live in a certain city, how would you search as far as keywords on google, etc

example:

search: roofing st louis

Is there a way of revealing the most entered keyword phrases out there ?

KeyWord Spy will tell you what keywords your competitors are using.

There is another site just like that too, but I can't remember the name right now, but they are a paid for service, not free.

It's Not The Keyword List -- It's What You Do With the Keyword List

There are tools that will provide you with a list of keywords based on a seed. They are a good start if you want to be like everyone else.

I prefer to use Google Trends directly and also Google Webmaster Tools to see what keywords are already in play for my web sites.

The way I use Google Trends is to see which of several potential keywords is most active. For example, have more people searched for 'roofer' or 'roofing' or 'contractor' in Missouri in the last 12 months?

As for Google Webmaster Tools, you can see how your website is ranked for various keywords search by actual, real people even if they didn't visit your site. That last part is an important distinction for Google Analytics users. Google Analytics only shows which keywords were used by actual visitors of your web site. Webmaster Tools also shows what keywords were found but not acted upon. In many cases, I can tweak my web pages (hint: improve the meta description and title) to increase the click-through rate for pages already ranked.

Cheers,
Matt
