Re: What Happen To My Computer?
Can you hook up an external monitor to it and see if its a system problem or a screen problem?

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
Yea that's the first thing I'd try, hook up another monitor.
Is it a CRT or LCD? Try unplugging the monitor, let it set, then plug it back in several times. This sometimes helps if the monitor components are going bad. Do you know if it's an on board graphics card, or PC. Check to and see if the monitor port is on one of the extra PC slots or by itself on the back of the desktop to find out. Bob

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
monitors burn out all the time. Best thing...don't touch it. Take to a pro...they'll hook it up and tell you what the matter is in a few seconds. If it is beyond fixing, they can retrieve your stored data off your harddrive onto disc so you can install it on the new computer.

OK, I'm going to say it despite the obvious potential for a serious "jinx". In 17 years of using PC's I'VE NEVER HAD A MONITOR BURN OUT! I've used at least a dozen brands of PC's since '87 including, amongst others, a Heathkit (floppy drives only), a PC's Unlimited (a kid by the name of Michael Dell hocked them mail order) and a Compaq 8086 that was still running with the original monitor when it was 'put down' 9 years after its purchase. I must be missing something. |

Sometimes the inverter goes Pipe, rarely is it the bulb or LCD board. However, in the past 8 months I've seen about evey laptop problem there is.

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
First off guys he said it was a desktop. Not a Laptop. The monitor has a signal if the light is green. It could be the brightness is turned off as stated, could be a setting in windows that this monitor will not accept. If the latter Safe mode would allow a standard VGA signal to be sent and the setting can then be changed to a suitable resolution and color level. I doubt the monitor is gone just a setting someplace.
So Izote when your computer is starting press the F8 key and choose safe mode. You may have to change a setting in desktop settings. Right click on the desktop choose advanced and set the monitor refresh rate to something like 60 This should work with most any monitor. Reboot and see if that helps. If you get no video in safe mode there might be a connection problem. Look at the pins and see none are bent. Let us know how you make out. |

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
Kids do some surfin' while you were gone? Maybe some of them downloaded jpegs and mpegs had some bad mojo attached to 'em. Maybe the video cards fried.
How do you know there's 'no signal'? Just because there's no picture? |

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
Is it beeping when it tries to boot? Sometimes the BIOS sends messages like "bad video card" by beeping in a code.
If your not getting anything on the screen then it sounds like a hardware issue and not a software issue. You can open up the PC and make sure the video card is seated on the motherboard well. Any lightning in the area lately?

Re: What Happen To My Computer?
I had a monitor's fuse pop. The case had to be cracked to get to it.
However it sounds like your vid card is not working properly a stated before |
