What Do You Think Of Our Website?
hey everyone....we've got a website up and running for our landscape construction business. I have been garnering the vast majority of our leads over the past year through Google. Over the past few weeks though I've been losing traffic and the average time on site has decreased. i am wondering if this is a result of me adding some flash contect (pictures) to our homepage - the time frame corresponds. Anyhow, any thoughts about effectiveness or usefulness will certianly be appreciated.
My intent is to have nearly 100% of our new leads come from internet and referral next year. treasured-earth.com Thanks, Jim |

Re: What Do You Think Of Our Website?
I would think that flash would decrease your traffic as the content is still available.
Carlsore might be able to answer this question better. Send him a PM.

(Originally posted in another thread):
While it's true that Search Engines don't like Flash, incorporating it into a website is not necessarily detrimental unless the *entire* website is based on Flash. This is primarily because Search Engine spiders can't (don't) process Flash SWF files. Simply put, where a human might look at a Flash page and see information and fancy graphics, a Search Engine spider will just see an unreadable block and skip it. Think of it as if a blind man is trying to listen to a television show but the audio has been replaced with Closed Caption or sign language. As long as the majority of your site content is in regular HTML web pages a spider should have no problem indexing it. A good rule of thumb to work by is that if you can't highlight the text on a web page, copy it, and paste it into word processor then a Search Engine spider can't handle it either. That said, I like the site design.

Visually, a great design.
But, everything you are doing with Flash, can be done with CSS, and maybe a wee bit of javascript.

Re: What Do You Think Of Our Website?
Hi Jim,
I have a few suggestions that you may want to consider: 1) When I select items on the menu on the left the order of the items changes and sometimes items disappear and others reappear. 2) Also the background changes from white to tan on different pages. 3) I think you should spice up your text a bit. Add bullet points, underline, highlight, bold etc. 4) Make your links change color with hover. Just to make it more dynamic without adding lots of flash. 5) At the bottom you have a lot of text that is meant to feed SE's but I think they could be better served as links to different pages (that do not show up on the main menu) so... Farmington Hills Landscaper ---> directs to an inner page that describes the area and jobs you did in that area etc. 6) Add a blog 7) Look at your statistics. Where are visitors going, what are the exit pages. etc. 8) The text size in your form is very small and not consistent with the other text size. |
