Web Designers

I am a total idiot when it comes to anything on the computer other than email and surfing the net. I own a domain name for my company through go daddy.
Do any of you guys have any recommendations on site builders?
Also if I have it designed and built what am I looking at money wise? I don't want anything crazy. And once its built, can I update it myself or do I need to know that html crap?

Re: Web Designers

I know a great web designer, he will do what you want, help you with suggestions, optimize it for SEO, and he is very talented. He can maintain it for you, or he can set it up with the software so you can do it yourself. PM or email me if you want his contact info.

Re: Web Designers

I would recommend wordpress. It's a blog/cms software. Very easy to install update and maintain on your own. There are many templates and plugins to choose from and it's free.

You can modify the themes, with your header image, logo or have a custom theme built and still maintain your ability to update it.
I also recommend this plugin to keep you up to date if you decide to go that route.

It's also very search engine friendly right from the start, you just add some pages and content.

Hey Magic, your deck page is busted...
http://skyebuilders.com/decks-patios-fences/
gives me a 404

Might want to get all your links fixed before you push the web designer aspect!

Thanks,
I've been on the site changing headers and keywords, that's not the designers fault. After I get through "making it better", I get her to check the links.

Mikec

I had to get with the times and get a website. I used Footbridgemedia to build and run the site. The site has been up for 3.5 months and already paid for itself for the next 40 months. I'm already on top of the search engines in my area. I'm also looking at Myonlinetoolbox to get to the next level of B-B-C and get ahead of other contractors. We in the construction industry need this to servive. Good luck with all

Re: Web Designers

I am also a fan of footbridge. They seem to have a really good grasp of the cosntruction biz. Their sites are geared towards highlighting the reasons potential clients should use you and getting them to make contact. My site has only been up 2 weeks with them and I still haven't made my initial approvals/changes and I am already showing up consistent top 10 on google and msn search. Yahoo has us on the second page, but after only a couple weeks up, I was satisfied thus far. The customer service is very good as well. Most are telling me the price is a bit high, but I use the same philosophy as I require my potential clients to use...we buy on quality, not price.

Re: Web Designers

Mike, good idea getting a website. There are a couple of ways to do what you want you can pay someone to build it, (I also do that, check my profile for my websites) or you can do it yourself.

If you can use microsoft word you can build a website. You can get more information about that at vippatron.com which I also own and built. There are sitebuilders, webhosts and a lot more information about websites there.

I'll be glad to help anyway I can. Let me know if you need anymore information.

Re: Web Designers

I'll say up front that designing website is my primary winter activity.

I'd recommend you have someone experienced, build a website on an easy to use format. All the hard work is done and you can then modify the website yourself, if you so choose (even if you aren't familiar with html code). This way, you have control over the process to whatever degree you choose.

Re: Web Designers

Website How-to Video

I get asked this question so often, I made a poor-quality video about it.

At the very minimum, make sure your website guy does these things in order to maximize traffic, and then convert that traffic into paying clients.

Good luck.
