Re: Voice Recognition??

When I hurt my shoulder a couple of years ago and couldn't type, I purchased Dragon NS on the advice of my chiropractor. I never could get used to it. I was somewhat able to get the hang of dictating the words, but was never able to make punctuation, capitals, new paragaphs, etc. work properly.

I think you need a lot of patience to learn the program and my attention span is pretty short.

My chiropractor uses it to "type" all of his patient notes and insurance forms, and he loves it.

Re: Voice Recognition??

Had not heard from them in a few years. They had some bugs in the technology. I do not know if they worked them out.

It's still the same, a little improved. The demo guy sure makes it look easy....of course.

Re: Voice Recognition??

I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for quite a few years, in fact that's how answer most of these posts on this forum. It has greatly improved over the version of five or six years ago, but it still has its idiosyncrasies. Because of what you are asking a $200 software program to do it will probably never be perfect.

It sometimes has problems telling the difference between words such as "hi" and "high" or "red" and "read" but then the amount of time it saves, at least for me because I am a four finger typist, it definitely comes in handy. Properly trained, it does a good job. I do know that it makes more mistakes when I'm tired and not pronouncing the words as well as I do when I am not.

Overall for me, it is a great timesaver. I use it when doing detailed proposals, writing e-mail, writing letters to family and friends, and adding posts to these forums. In fact, I got an e-mail the other day, trend Microsystems has Dragon naturally speaking preferred on sale for $99 until December 21. It is usually $199 I'm sure this time of year you can find it on sale at other places as well.

Re: Voice Recognition??

The current higher end version is much better than the versions from 6 + years ago, but I write and type in a completely different tone and demeanor than I speak, so for me, it would not articulate my points as well.

Re: Voice Recognition??

I tried it and I can tell you that I did not like it. I had so many problems with it. It could be this South Ga accent that I have but I could not train it to my voice.
