Vendor Pricing Import

My current remodeling software company has updated its software to include vendor pricing from 2 of our local vendors. i think some one is finally listening in the software field. Gonna try to import the databases in tomorrow this may actually turn out to be a cool feature if it works

Re: Vendor Pricing Import

We think electronic pricing from suppliers is the way of the future. The plumbing and electrical industry has been doing it for over 15 years.

The educated builders we work with have been doing it for over 10 years. The reason they wanted it was because they wanted an estimating system that could estimate the job, create a proposal and once the customer's proposal was signed automatically generate all the purchase orders for the job in seconds. They also wanted to compare pricing from multiple vendors for the same items before they created purchase orders.

The electronic pricing provided them with more accurate estimates and with more accurate purchase orders so now they are controlling their costs up front rather than after the fact.

The suppliers like it because their builders that use it are more successful so therefore buy more materials

Re: Vendor Pricing Import

Jeff

I agree with your assesment. The software I use does exactly as you describe. It captures potential customer information and moves it through the typical process for design/build remodelers. Preliminary Estimate-design agreement-final estimate-contract-job schedule. after that's done you get the typical po and sub sheets to email or fax out

Its funny because all the top remodelers here buy from the same 2-3 vendors. So it seems like such and obvious idea. The software company got the biggest vendor on board so I think it will be a matter of time before the other companies join in if it works out.

I think the biggest problem estimating software vendors have is the cost of the software. It is hard for a remodeler/contractor especially smaller companies to justify to their self spend a couple thousand bucks on software. I know I thought it was crazy until I finally took the plunge and realized how much easier estimating and keeping up with the paper work became.

I you buy a good product it will cost but the rewards should make it a worthy investment
