Using A Printer In Your Truck

I am wondering if it’s possible to keep a printer in your truck in the winter time. Would the cold temperature freeze up the ink or damage the equipment?

Re: Using A Printer In Your Truck

I would suspect that it would not work well in the cold and even possibly damage it.

If I were you I'd call the printer manufacturer and ask them directly.

Speaking of in-truck printers, does anyone have one? What kind? Does it work well?

I've been thinking about this and it would save me a lot of time from coming back to the office. I'm getting one of those Rogers USB sticks that puts me on the internet and bringing my laptop with me. The internet on my phone is almost more annoying than helpful.

I keep my laptop and printer in the Truck. Its an HP Portable one. It works for me.

I don't think I have noticed any problems relating to the cold weather at all.

I keep them both in the center console of my Toyota

I agree with rbsremodeling. I have the HP portable. I have it in wheel well where the jack is on my Tahoe. It has been there for a while as well as behind the back seat of my Chevy Truck.

It has worked every time I have pulled it out and that is not rare. It has been in a truck for about 2 years.

Doesn't it get in the way when your driving? What about the paper falling on the floor. Sounds dangerous to me.

I don't know any contractor in his right mind that would drive a Toyota.

But I don know some contractors have a printer behind thier seat, I just don't know if they have to take it out in the winter time.

I kept a printer in the truck for a while but found that e-mail or e-fax was much more convenient for me and for the customer.

FWIW, since printers are getting cheaper every day, so what if you need to buy another one every two years or so? After all, it's just a printer, not a printer/scanner/copier/fax/ heat up your coffee/phone your mother on Mothers' Day/Porta Potty gizmo.

Having a printer in your vehicle is the Nutts! And a must!

The quote above would upset me if they were a Residential, Commercial Repaint Painter, however they are an Industrial Painting Company and I'm sure a great one at that so for them to email or efax their bids to the customer should be ok, it is important to understand what type of customers they may be talking about and the type that you are working with.

It would be impossible for me to sign contracts like and as much as I do on a one call close with out all these tools.

Mr. Mike

Your post is dead on. My intention was not to upset but to offer options, not just in lieu of but also in addition to. Thanks for having my back.

Canon makes a small color printer, about $275.00. I am on my second one, in 5 years. I use an adaptor that plugs into the lighter in my Sprinter.

I keep it behind the seat until I need it which is very rare. I then pull the paper out and use it. Then I put it back. I mainly got it because I am also a realtor and one of my clients likes to do things right then so I figured I would have it to move things along. Of course that was before he went bankrupt and left me holding a lot of money.
