Telemarketers Have New Weapon

I've been getting voicemails lately stating, "You didn't hear your phone ring, did you? That's because we didn't want it to. To get in on this ground-breaking marketing technology, just call the number that's displayed on your phone."

That's all. No ringing phone. No vibration. Just a notification I've got a voice message.

Only problem is................. I have no phone number in my call log. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Nill. Nuttin'.

This is scary stuff. If one outfit has the ability to bypass my phone and insert their crap in my voicemail box, then EVERYBODY will have it soon.

Instead of dismissing out-of-state numbers or telling the local-number-spoofing bastids to go to hayell, we will now be bombarded with instant voicemail messages. We'll have to wade through them just to get to the calls we WANT to listen to.

I called my carrier, which produced the expected result: Download a call-blocking app. Sorry, but when my phone doesn't ring and as far as it is concerned no one has even dialed my number, there's no one to block. It's not like their number comes up at Unavailable or 000000000.

I just get a notification I've got a message.

I've received three such phone calls in the last month. Apparently my carrier has never heard of this. Their best suggestion is to accept only calls from numbers in my contact list. That......... is simply NOT...... an option.

I think there is an app which does exactly what your talking about. I thought it was more so I could call my mom and just leave a message without having to talk for an hour when she picks up.
