Re: Random Dial Up
I hope that it's not calling overseas. LOL I've never heard of a self-dialing modem, #2 says that the modem only does what the 'puter tells it to do (she's an IT consultant).

Re: Random Dial Up
What number is it dialing?
Sorry, don't have any more ideas-- that would make me nervous though. I'd definately leave it unplugged til solved-- to state the obvious. |

Re: Random Dial Up
Not wanting to over simplify, but have you checked the dialing preferences in the properties of your dial-up networking window? You can set the modem there to never dial a connection unless prompted to. If you've got it set to Always Dial, certain programs can dial up on their own to check for updates, etc.

Re: Random Dial Up
I was digging through some boxes the other day and I found an old Apple memory upgrade. It was a 264K!
It looked like a chevy hood with a gold keyed piano sodered to it. Bob

Re: Random Dial Up
In your browser, click tools, options, connections. see if any odd connection is there.
Also, check Control panel, phone and modem menu. hope this helps. |

Re: Random Dial Up
Probably you have installed a software that connects to ****o sites. It can happen nonintentionally. So try to look for a suspecious software that is installed on your system.
I hope this helps Quote:

Re: Random Dial Up
Dial up hay? Here’s a snap shot of the old dog I’m using LMAO.
Operating System System Model Windows 98 SE (build 4.10.2222) Intel Corporation Processor a Main Circuit Board b 400 megahertz Intel Pentium II 32 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: Intel Corporation SE440BX AA703652-406 Serial Number: IMSE83009785 Bus Clock: 100 megahertz BIOS: Intel Corp. 4S4EB0X1.86A.0032.P12 04/22/1999 Drives Memory Modules c,d 6.44 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 5.47 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space ATAPI-CD ROM DRIVE-50MAX [CD-ROM drive] Generic floppy disk drive (3.5") Generic IDE hard disk drive (6.44 GB) -- drive 0, No SMART Driver 256 Megabytes Installed Memory Slot 'J6J1' has 128 MB Slot 'J6J2' has 128 MB Slot 'J7J1' is Empty Local Drive Volumes c: (on drive 0) 6.44 GB 5.47 GB free I keep it cleaned up and she’s pretty fast. 26,400 bps. The BIOS is screwed up. I cant save anything to floppy and if I insert a music CD she freezes instantly. Oh if I use the printer I have to reboot or I get all kinds of errors. I’m not asking for solutions. It’s beyond that. Oh I did have a dialer that got into my registry once. That was a bugger to remove but I did it.
