Re: Quickbooks For Mac

I use Macs and I already had Quickbooks for Mac but when I had a bookkeeper come in to go over everything she was very frustrated. Turns out the Mac version is not as good because they left some things out AND they rearranged lots of things. So everything that a bookkeeper or accountant is used to is switched around.

So I bought the 2007 quickbooks pro for contractors windows edition. It's the version that 99% of the accounting world will be familiar with and just like every other windows program it will run just fine on a newer intel Mac using parallels or boot camp.

Re: Quickbooks For Mac

just use Bootcamp dual boot and have XP on the mac too. load that up when you need to use the PC version of windows. that's what i'm going to do. my office has an older dell desktop pc, and we just got a new macbookpro laptop which I love. I have to stay with the PC version because my accountant has the same and don't want to screw things up. I am not sure the old saved company file will load in the mac version.

Re: Quickbooks For Mac

One of the things that Intuit does is enable conversion between Mac and Windows software for the times that you need to exchange backups with an accountant or bookkeeper who doesn't use the same operating system.

I don't think too many people are aware of this because Intuit doesn't really advertise the feature. Not knowing you can do this could end up forcing business owners to either buy new computers with different operating systems or utilize both versions of QB Pro software.

I have an XP platform but have used the Macbook, too. I love the way it's able to switch back and forth and might even consider one in my future. It would be a whole lot faster than converting data from Mac to XP.

Has anyone ever swapped files with a bookkeeper or accountant who knows how to convert one to the other, then back again?

Just curious.

Re: Quickbooks For Mac

QB for Mac is about the same capability as the Quicken Online Version. Not all features are enabled, it is certainly not of the caliber of QB Pro.

That is probably got his bookkeeper frustrated.

And I don't know 1 CPA who could figure out how to a) convert from Mac or b) convert back to Mac and I work with quite a few of them.

I would go with the dual boot. Any Mac in the past few years should be capable.
